Bafang motor though .. nothing wrong with it but you can get Shimano for less money plus I am always skeptical about shocks on hybrids, who will service them?!

whyyyyyy its good! Surprisingly not bad value for money, take out of the box and ride, no need to install anything else other than pedals. 3 batt options 300, 400 and 500. Trek is super good with customer support too.

yeah that's what I thought.
I do wonder why all e-bikes now coming with shocks... maybe for european cobbled city centres? -

The spec on these bikes is pretty shocking for nearly 2 thousand pounds. I get that the battery and motor make up most of the cost.
Would personally avoid anything with one of those steel 50mm travel suspension forks. Without maintenance they'll seize up in a year or two and just be an extremely heavy rigid fork

I kinda want one of these

yeah the lithium batteries are still pricey, even the Chinese ones and sadly disposable. All e-motor stuff is STILL too pricey (cars), its a shame.
£2 isnt that bad tbh. Its getting lower.

For sure. Comparing to standard bikes where 2k gets you a carbon road bike with 105 or Alloy and ultegra, 2k for an ebike gets you 8 speed and no brand square taper cranks and tektro brakes

maybe I shouldn't tell you what I paid for my cargo bike
-
• #186
That's not as bad though because it sort of replaces a small car.
Why does nobody make cargo motorbikes? Electric cargo mopeds would be rad.

If they made that with a belt drive, i'd be in.
Will head out for a ride on my Tinker this weekend. Haven't ridden it since last Spring.

My wife's decided she'd possibly like an electric bike for commuting to work, and has also been looking at Swytch conversion kits for her Dawes Espresso. Had a quick search and couldn't find too much on here about them - any got any experiences with them? Or are there any other conversion kits people can recommend?

Whilst no particular kit to mention, front wheel drive hubs are the simplest to fit but not the best.
Rear wheel drive kits are less simple due to gearing etc.I do not have too much experience of mid drive but someone I know well has fitted a few and has not found too much difficulty.

Dawes Espresso
If she is happy to sacrifice the bottle cage mount, Bafang mid drive kit is the best thing for conversion. I did a lot of research on this then decided to buy a fully integrated eBike .. still playing with an idea to put that kit on my cargo bike.
You can also get a pannier rack battery.

I just picked up a Circe Helios tandem with Shimano Steps electric motor and it is EPIC.
I was sold on the idea of an e-bike to replace a lot of car journeys but was concerned that a) most of the e-bikes I could see would not be an easy fit for different rider heights and b) that most of our journeys do actually involve ferrying kids/people around to clubs (pre-Covid), friends houses (pre-Covid...) and... actually maybe this isn't going to work out!
Oh well, I've got it now and early impressions are that it's flipping awesome. Just the right kind of bike for electric assist, tandeming is all about chilling and chatting so this means that the bits where that is hard to do (hills seem doubly hard, not adequately compensated for with the extra power) are sorted. Also journey times are more easily predictable.
I had the non-assisted version before so I know how versatile the frames are. Now I have mudguards, front & rear racks and the Brompton luggage block so it can take a lot of kit. Captain is any height up to 6'5, stoker can fit comfortably from age 6 and it is quite compact so handles really well solo.
Fingers crossed we get the use out of it that I hope we will.
burn that with fire
