  • Chrome stem, black tape. If you ride it, always black tape.

  • Just to be awkward, black bars/stem with red tape, that's how mine was from new. Anything but the blue with 'Gios' printed on it!

  • Chrome stem and bars with white tape, matches the white decals perfectly, but you going to need a white saddle then ;)

  • I get that. Just for hiding dirt, but white won't get too dirty if you try keep it clean. And anyways, it would only be like £8 to change tape in a month or two.

White tape reminds me of the steel frame days in Pro racing.

  • Lol, that always seems to happen. You change one thing, then it leads to another... a white Cinelli Volare would have to do then ;)

  • Do you have any images of it? I am curious to see it.

  • I'm going to be riding this black stem and handlebar setup for a while but I will swap it for a silver Cinelli setup when the handlebar tape is done for. Campione del Mondo and XA stem. Would be cool to get a 1R stem though.

  • The ITM setup does look cool in my opinion. I love the laser etching detail on the handlebars.

  • ITM Pro setup

  • Looking for a new project at the moment and came across a Gios Evolution Compact Pro frame and forks on ebay. Total novice to the Gios world but having read through this thread - they are some mighty fine looking bikes!

Appear to be pretty sound structurally but the paint has seen far better days.

Worth a punt? Or is this a frameset that I should leave alone? Any help would be well received!

  • Buy it, paint it, build it.

    Advice ended.

    Welcome to the club....

  • Buy it, paint it, build it, ride it.

    FTFY ;)

  • Ha! Solid advice.

If I win I’ll be sure to update on my trials and tribulations!

  • Don't be daft, this is LFGSS, we build bikes we don't actually ride.

  • I thought that was just me!

  • I have an Columbus Air Aerodynamic, that I want to get restored, any suggestion greatly appreciated..

  • One of only 200 made and a thing of beauty! If you search 'Gios Aerodynamic' on here you'll get my entire restoration thread from 7 years ago. There might even be some useful information amongst all the waffle.

  • Thanks Colin, remember reading your resto thread back in the Day..

  • Hi all, a bit of advice needed with regards to the Gios 50th the seatpost stuck one on previous page :-)

The adjustable rear dropout seems to be bent, or could it be the rear mech a culprit or both - anyone tried to 'repair' this or knows where a new one can be obtained?

Bike is work in progress, as the seatpost wasn't the only issue, but getting there slowly.

  • Seems I forgot the obvious source of dropouts 🙈 - their shop in Turin sells them, will ask a friend from there to pop in and buy a set for me.

  • Resurrecting the aesthetics discussion. Your opinion on the saddle colour - black or white? Stem and bars are staying black as per original built and black tape just doesn't go IMO.

n.b bar tape is cheap temp solution as the new owner will need to dial in the cockpit anyway so brifters may move a bit depending how he likes them positioned.

    Any comment appreciated.

  • Following yesterday's trip to the frozen north, this is now hanging in my shed:

  • I have the identical frame sitting at home waiting to be built up..

  • Glorious, welcome to the one of 200 built club! Just lose the up your own arse leather handlebar wraps and put on some proper Benotto tape. I would love to know what you paid, but that's a bit like asking a lady her age.
