  • Fridge is borked after 14 months of ownership and has been quoted £350 to repair by an independant. Currys have offered me £200 compensation, which is a number that gets fired out of their machine with no resoning to the call handler at the other end. This is -£219 depreciation over 14 months. Is there any way I can dispute this valuation?

  • That's giving a depreciation of £15.64 per month, if the depreciation is linear that means a £419 fridge would have a life expectancy of 26 months. Is that reasonable?
Ask them to show their workings

  • if the depreciation is linear

I know some depreciation is treated linearly, but I would have thought a consumer item like this is exponential decay? I believe it's typically done as depreciation rate = N x linear rate where N is 1.5 or 2.

Either way, @Silly_Savage, that seems quite a steep depreciation. What's the warranty, 12 months?
