As a side note, the customer S60Rs he's got at his place are starting to look very appealing.

Where is he now?

Love the look of that one Enkei RPF1s. Definitely a good choice of wheel.
+1
I am deep in fantasy wheel selection mode for my impending project. Japanese wheels be expensive once you get out of Kei car sizing though.

Another benefit of 16x8 on the R53. Cheaper wheels. Cheaper tyres.
That being said if I'm splurging on spicy coilovers I'll probably end up with Rotas or something similar in the short term unless I manage to grab a bargain on something exciting...

Work ZR10s are pretty reasonable and are high on the list for my bug.

No ROTAs.
949 racing 6UL look pretty good on the Minis.
I've actually got some very rare Prodrive branded GC05A in 16x7 made by Rays for Prodrive Japan. They're very light. I haven't seen them for a couple of years because I accidentally left them at my MX5 tuner's garage, but he's shutting up shop so I'm forced to go get them. They're worth 4 figures but I do you or anyone else interested a very forum friendly price.

Hadn't considered going for 15" but if you're going for fat tyres might as well make them properly fatty!
Are Rotas really still that bad for a road wheel these days? Seems there's a bunch of other similarly placed wheels on the market these days too...

They could be Enkei or knock off Enkeis.
Try here - https://www.driftworks.com/wheels-and-accessories/
You should be able to find something suitable.

I don't understand as much of this as I would like to. But it sounds like good news. More torque, less lag can only be good news.
The volvo lives is excellent news.

They're the wheels @NurseHolliday recommended.
Also;
Regarding wheel fitment again now that we've cleared up the whole positive/ negative offset thing would it be correct to say using an ET25 wheel in place of an ET35 wheel would be equivalent to an ET35 wheel with a 10mm spacer and shouldn't present any issues with clearance for brakes or suspension?
Just trying to really get my head around it...

Yes. Brakes and suspension will be fine assuming both rims have the same width. Any clearance issues will be around the wheel arches.

They're Enkei RPF1, same as on the silver Mini @Nahguavkire posted, just smaller.
These are 6ULs on a Mini

Just missing a bit of glass liek.
I think COPS is reasonable because Tim can just use Volvo loom from the S60R and splice it into the 850 loom, frees up a lot of space in the bay too.
The Owen Developments GTX turbo he runs would be nice, but it's about £1,500 I think and might push the budget outside what's manageable right now.
