Nothing quite like British exceptionalism. But when the government announces on 4th June that face coverings will be mandatory from 15th of June I guess this is the kind of situation we end up with. They could very easily have made them mandatory on 5th June and only introduced the fines from the 15th June. Then again, that would require the sort of logic, competence and clear communication that has been entirely absent throughout the COVID-19 response.

I just took my daughter on the train for an orthodontist appointment. Loads of signs saying wear a face covering, almost no one (including staff) wearing anything.
