• Is the 105 logo etched or printed? If the latter, break out the nail polish remover, and crack on.

  • I did this exact thing

  • Beautiful frame!

  • It'll acetone off? I'd assumed it had been etched on.

    Any pics of yours?

  • It does, but it also removes the gloss off the paint (oh the gloss!) and the paint on the derailleur is thin. So:
    1) I wouldn't recommend it, which leads me to
    2) I'm not going to post a picture of mine

  • That's when you reach for the autosol, and start buffing.

  • Dura Ace shifters and mechs and more prosaic cranks is a cognoscenti move, and the bike is excellent. Do keep the tubs though.

  • I thought that stuff was for haemorrhoids

  • Stainless bottle cages from condor to round out the build.

Have put up about 300km on it in the past 2 weeks and loving it!

Watching a few nicer pedal sets on ebay to ditch the cheapo spds. Stem will be replaced with matching PRO one once i settle on 110mm or 120mm.

  • It looks lovely

  • yeah, that looks brilliant

  • Another vote for keeping the tubs. @amey used to roll around Kent on Zipp tubs at 18mph, never had any issues (on the one ride I saw him do this).

  • Panic bought clinchers

  • Wow, nearly 2 years since I built this, so many change!

4iiii pm disintegrated, and because they don’t make them anymore I got a refund rather than a replacement, and have had to make do with an ugly old 5700 chainset since then. Sold the mavics because tubs. Alu clinchers died last June and needed rebuilding so I bought hunt crabonz to keep me moving (got alu clinchers rebuilt for winter*), and now that stocks of shimano have been replenished, I ordered a full 9100 groupset which should be here next week, which has promoted me to reflect back on this build thread.

*ironically my bike didn’t leave the turbo trainer all winter

  • Nice to finally have a matching groupset! Carbon wheels will be back on when racing starts next month!

Ordered a set of pdw guards but I’ll probably hold off and fit them and the 10s dura ace to a winter bike whenever I find a cheap frame!

  • Updated the thread title to be more in line with other bike stable musings threads.

Bought a cheap carbon Scott xc bike for a few xc races middle of last year. Hasn’t changed a drastic amount aside from throwing a nicer set of tyres on it and a hope carbon seatpost. I did briefly have a dropper post fitted but the extra cable made the handlebars a right mess, so I ditched it for a carbon post. Must investigate building a bike around the dropper soon.

Short term plan is to get a set of hunt xc wheels, but I’d eventually like a nicer brake set and shimano groupset too. I’d also love a SID fork.

Might have been cheaper to buy a frame and build it up…

  • Carbon loveliness…

Going to eventually get the same for the genesis.

  • That looks good. I can see how tempting it'd be to start heading down the weight weenie path though

  • My body is not weight weenie so that’s not the priority but a wheel upgrade will definitely shave 750g off so that’s an easy win!

  • Also, I like Ardents, but a Crossmark or Ikon on the rear would definitely get you a little extra free speed :-)

  • Rock garden in the last xc race I rode ripped open a 3 ride old ardent so I won’t be going any lighter!

  • I don't think they're much lighter really, but definitely faster rolling

No idea what type of courses you're racing though

  • I’d also love a SID fork.

    make sure it blue

  • Blue forks look shit. SID comes in black, as it should be.

  • Blue SIDs are for gravel bikes. Pro XC riders use the black ones
