Probably serves to keep a bit more tension in the chain, which you'd want with a torquey electric motor.
-
• #23528
It’s a chain tensioner, handy when you have an illegal motors attach to the bike.

Its a DCD - Daves Chain Device on the chainstay.
Oh yeah, used to be called Mr Crud’s Chain Tensioner later in life.

Looks like a 'Dave's Chain Device' from the 90's. A quite noisy attempt to stopp
chain slap and adding more tension. -

Yep - Mr Crud aka Pete Tompkins made millions out of it along with the Crud guard, crud catcher and crud claw. He was a painter and decorator originally I think

not that 'wild' you need to come out of (mental) Hackney, the world is not all sourdoughs and perfectly curated custom bikes!
(I am going to put the same motor on the bullitt soon)

I'm devastated by this news.

Thank you - do you offer coaching, and if so what is the hourly rate?

Anyone got experience of a Kepler Disc? Tempted to get a frame and shift over everything from my old arkose as I want a steel frame for audax/touring that I can use the 38mm dynamo wheelset on.
-
• #23542
Felt heavy and boring to me personally, kind of surly like. Used mine as a winter road bike and can’t say I miss it at all. Might be more suited for touring etc though.
-
• #23543
Hm, was worried that may be the case.

Brother = surly basically doesn't it?
-
• #23545
It does from my experience, yes.
-
• #23546
Hmm. I’m after a new frame for audax and light touring. Thought a nice, wallet friendly steel frame could fit but not if it’s a bit dull to ride. 2014 Arkose is flexi and a lot of road vibrations despite the carbon fork. More research required.

Budget?
-
• #23548
£600 plus costs to get LBS to swap components/upgrade (no tools, no space).
-
• #23549
Yep, i've got one and it does the job - simple 4130 steel and feels better than my old 725 Equilibrium. That might just be because it fits me!
All the rack and fender points that I want and cheap as chips. Can't really fault it tbh - probably same comment that there's nothing outstanding about it at the same time.

Nice, thanks. Two similar bits of feedback which is why I love the forum. Am tempted as it is cheap and will do the job better than the old arkose but won’t be the ‘dream’ bike (if that ever exists). Know it may be a bit dull but far cheaper than a surly.
