  • I’d decide based on which was the more interesting, paint and tubing wise. Weight not really an issue imo unless the difference is huge. Van Tuyl sounds like it might be a nicer frameset

  • Park Tool FR-1 has 12 splines and is approx 22.5mm diameter across the outside of the splines. Shimano one looks like it’s closer to 23.5mm diameter but I haven’t got a calliper to accurately check.

  • Anyone know what year this chorus crankset is and what it's BCD is? Also what size camp chainring bolts it needs-I just picked it up of ebay cheap but need some new chainrings and bolts for it.:

  • Campagnolo BCD is basically 135 mm.

Non-carbon Chorus crankset with only 4 arms is from 2004-2006.

  • Finished this off last night, took it for it's first ride this morning. Need a layback post, some lighter pedals, another bottle cage and less air in the tyres. Bars feel good - shallow drop and easy to get comfy on.

  • That looks highly capable. Have you gone tubeless?

  • Thanks (and @MisterMikkel too). It's pretty good, though I've not ridden it far yet.

    Have you gone tubeless?

Yes - have been tubeless on all my bikes for a few years now. This one has Stan's Crest rims (the older narrow ones) and 43mm Gravel King SK TLC tyres. I'm very happy with them - fast, robust and grippy.

  • love it
Beautifully made frame and best saddle ever

  • If you squint it looks a bit like a bike. I've not quite got everything I need to finish it off today but hoping to have it on the road by the end of the week. Desperately need to desticker the rims and get a nicer seatpost.

  • So question regarding headsets.

I bought the EXT v2 fork which has an integrated crown race for is52/40. But the Hook EXT, the bike that the fork comes with doesnt have a integrated crown race, right?

I need to get a headset for my build and dont know what to get. Need advice. I don't like the look of an integrated headset. That's what makes it difficult. Maybe someone who knows more about headset standards can point me in the right direction.

  • Amazing!

I was SO tempted by this.

  • So what frame are you putting that fork on?

The headset is dependent on your frame, not the fork. As long as it has the right diameter bearings of course.
The integrated crown race is not specific to integrated or semi-integrated bearing headsets. It will work with an external cup headset too as long as the bearing seat angle is the same on the fork integrated crown race as is intended for the headset

  • Thanks, @PhilDAS. I'm putting it on a weird frame without much accessible spec. It has a 44mm head tube, is that sufficient information?

  • You probably want ZS44/28.6 - EC44/40
    There aren't many cheap options

  • This is what I gather as well. Thank you for helping! Much appreciated :•)

Edit: What's with headset branding. So much graphics everywhere. Thought for a second I found something a bit low key. Turns out it says Hellbender70 on the backside. Like an aol account from 1999.

  • I really shouldn't have bought it but I'm really glad I did. I reckon it'll fit me really well. The paint looks absolutely immaculate as well, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not been built up since it was painted.

  • You should have removed that frame before painting that board white

  • I’m glad I can live vicariously through you!

Did you get the steel fork with it? Any plans for the build?

  • No just the carbon Whisky forks. I can't believe how light they are! The build isn't going to be too inspiring for now (because I spanked more money than I can really afford on the F+F), it'll get the almost new 11 speed 105 groupset that was on my Cannondale, some mismatched wheels, and various bits of mismatched finishing kit! Going to be using 23mm tyres through summer and use it as a (relatively) fast commuter and weekend road bike and when the weather gets worse it'll get 28mm tyres and mudguards.
The thing I'd like to upgrade first is the seatpost. I've had the Kalloy one that's on there for years and it's seen better days.
