I honestly don’t get the need for butter with PB - surely if you need more calories than double up on PB?

the job of the butter is to soak down into the hot inner crumb of the freshly toasted bagel, softening and moistening it prior to spreading a luxuriant coating of peanut butter on top.

That's bagel gappage that could be taken up with PB juice though. Mmm.. pb juice.
