  • Entered, her work is cool. Thanks for sharing.
Seen a lot of raffles but she’s the first I’ve seen I’d want to get work from.

The cute ones have all started OnlyFans accounts while the work is off it would seem ;) nice to see all the prints, watercolours, sculptures and other pieces they’re all producing at the moment.

I’m glad I got poked day before lockdown, Liz bought an amazing print from a @nikkilollytattoo and we’ve both made enquiries with @carlotta_ink for when she’s next in London.

  • Who’s good in Cambridge?

  • Is there a website that consolidate all the guest spots, artist and dates?

Also I am looking to tattoo my grandman house but don’t necessarily want a realistic picture so looking for someone who could put their own touch/interpretation to it, any idea?

Best off finding an artist you like and emailing them to see if they are coming to an area near you.
Currently tattooists are not open so unlikely any existing plans will be upheld.

again, you are best hitting up instagram and looking at loads of tattooists and seeing which style you like the most.

Not having a clue what you like, it's hard to suggest an artist/ style for you to look at.

  • All seems to be kicking off at Dharma... both Simon Erl and Chris Hewish asked to leave the shop

    https://www.instagram.com/dharmatattoolondon

  • Woah. I recently got jabbed by Chris, seemed like a nice guy.
Yeshe runs one of the finest shops I’ve ever been to so know he won’t be associated with anything underhand.

  • There's been a bit of a reckoning recently, I'm not sure what caused it but there's been a push to remove artists that have assaulted, abused etc. people in the past. It sounds like Chris has got caught in this, Simon Erl has deleted his instagram.
It's may be related to this https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/news/leeds-news/leeds-cafe-vandalised-after-racist-18386394

  • It can only be a good thing. It seems like maybe people are feeling more confident about speaking out about past abuse, seeing the support that others have been getting after doing so. There's been some discussion about the Simon Erl/ Temple situation in the Vegan thread.

  • Oh yeah, I can see both sides of the arguments. I would never have pegged him as a white supremacist, we've got a lot of friends in common who are definitely not nazis. It may be a case of him going too far with the controversial imagery and not considering they aren't just historical, they have modern day meaning too. But then he could be hiding in plain sight.

I'm in to black metal which is similarly tricky; there are some definitely neo-nazi bands but there's also a lot that play with similary themes to different extents and deny any kind of nazi-relatedness. It's hard to tell who's being genuine and who's lying to try and avoid media controversy, and likewise some people are more happy than others to separate artist and art.

The treatment of the employee at Temple is just wrong, no excuses. I can't tell from the article if Simon was involved in the abuse but he should have stopped it and come out stronger about it never happening again.

  • Yeah it's definitely a complex issue! As long as you listen to one Dawn Ray'd song for every NSBM song I reckon you're golden.

  • I'll admit I went to see Marduk after they released Viktoria but I won't go as far as NSBM. Ok maybe a little Burzum cos I can't understand a word anyway.

  • To be clear, that comment was a bit tongue in cheek. Obvs don't listen to NSBM.

I think in terms of the imagery he could've got away with it - every other tattoo studio had someone with people 'reclaiming' the swastika back in the 90s.

But someone dug out some comments he wrote on his artwork saying something along the lines of 'jesus was the sneakiest jew who ever lived, he created a religion to keep gentiles on their knees'. So it clearly goes a bit further than the imagery.

There's been some great #metoo type stuff happening with problematic artists these days too, really great to see.

  • Well I’ve just contacted Yeshe to enquire about blackout/coverup for the 2 small pieces I have by Hewish.
I’ve been a regular at the shop for a few years and the news of these incidents has shocked me.
Yeshe seems to spend every moment striving to be a better human and can only applaud him for taking action so swiftly.

So, blackout the elbow and chop off my ring finger? Hopefully a less extreme solution can be found. Shame as I fucking love my finger tattoo.

Do nothing? the artist being a shitty dude does not require you to black it out, still your skin. They dont own it

  • Bangover with something else on the elbow
Turn the finger into a dagger/ letter opener?

  • Yeah I don't think you need to cover them up. Obviously do it if they bother you but you didn't know at the time so it wasn't a conscious decision to get a tattoo from someone with "sexual misconduct".

  • I'll admit I'm a bit biased because my forearm tattoo was done buy a guy who later it turned out had been hitting his girlfriend. He's now disappeared, I think he left the country, but it's too big to cover up without just blacking out my arm.

  • There are many morally questionable artists in all fields, some of them are great as artists despite this. Knowingly supporting them is repugnant, but you didn't. If you love the work, leave them as they are.

  • separating the Art from the Artist is a tricky subject.

I still enjoy the odd Michael Jackson track, and I watch Kevin Spacey films, but its not that I condone what they did.

  • I certainly understand what you’re saying with keeping them as I wasn’t knowingly supporting an alleged abuser.
What I will say is that my finger tattoo is my wedding tattoo, on a personal level it’ll be hard to separate the work celebrating the best day of my life from someone who preyed on women. Just doesn’t sit well with me.

  • I think my finger could be reworked to the point it’s unrecognisable as his work if I were to go full hand tattoo.

  • Again the think I think people dont get is that tattoos are not the same as a Michael Jackson track. Once you walk out the door they are yours, not the artists. It's a false equivalency. Changing your body after the fact because of them is giving power to the bullshit they did.

Now if it was a tattoo of Michael Jackson then thats a different story.

  • I understand that it is hard to drive the association from your mind. The tattoos will still be there even if covered up (please avoid amputation). There was no complicity with the artist on your part.

HatBeard is right, the world would be slightly poorer without, say, Billie Jean or The Usual Suspects.

The art is yours, not the artists.

  • I hear what you’re saying and you’re right of course but it’s def going to be playing on my mind until the studios reopen.
I’ve contacted Yeshe and will go from there.
