  • I would but I haven’t got an idea yet.. only seen one and can’t think where i found that!

  • I've got a Blackburn Outpost for £34 and a Metro Porteur for a measly £12 here: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/346433/#comment15235776

  • Rack nerds; best universal, downtube or seatpost mounted platform rack?

  • Anyone tried the Nitto F16? I typically use the Nitto M12 but the front end is getting busy with light/USB charging/mudguard gubbins and the F16 seems a neat solution.

I don't like my handlebar bag flapping in the wind and I really don't like the KlickFix fixing.

  • I have swapped my Charge Plug 1 SSCX bike for a Marin Four Corners, gravel, "utilitourer". Hello gears!

The Charge had a Tubus Tara on the front that I loved, with nice carradice low rider front panniers.

I can't seem to make the Tara fit on the Marin, without fouling the QR dropouts. Probably due to the swept back "s" shape of the Tara.

Can anyone either a) tell me how to fit the Tara or b) recommend a similar pannier rack that will work?

  • Got a pic of an attempted fitting?

  • Not right now. I'll have another go later and post it up.

  • Ha.

I went to try and fit it, to get a photo, and it went on perfectly with the QR cam lever working fine. What a (happy) idiot.

  • A bit late,
but old school touring bar bags used to hang from the stem like this.

They came with bunjee cords that you fitted to the bottom of the bag and to the fork ends eyelets.

    Once sufficiently loaded,
using the flex of the rack,
they would free themselves going forward.

  • @Tijs - up thread you posted these as a possible mount for forks without bosses...

  • I'm not following. Do you have a question?

  • I used these successfully to create fork-crown mounts for a Surly rack on my Kepler.
They were pretty fiddly but super strong and worked perfectly. The only draw back is that it makes mudguards tricky and - when I took them off today - they had scratched the paint quite a lot so use the rubber protectors

*I realise that this is probably much too late to be useful

  • you saw it quicker than I expected

I have tag email notifications on. ;)

Nice to know they work. Just ordered a rack that attaches to canti studs two days ago though haha.

  • So the info was nearly useful. What did you go for?

  • Velo Orange Campeur!

  • All that effort to fit a rack that could kill you.

Just adding to the danger now?

  • Is the feature to which you refer that may kill you this? In which case, yeah, they look bad.

  • I'm not dead (yet) ;)

  • Forgive me if I’m wrong, but that rack looks like it’s missing the additional hardware Surly issued to make it safe after the recall? If so, you should contact whoever sold it to you - or your nearest surly distributor if it was second hand - to get the extra bits sent to you. Better that than your face.

  • A mate of mine did a much neater fix by tapping the ends of the rods and putting a bolt and washer in to stop it sliding off. Surly missed a trick with their bodge.

  • Naivety is a beautiful thing.

  • I wish I'd thought of that

  • Looking for a canti mounted rack that can take panniers. Any options other than VO campeur?
