What type of leather, shiny or suede? Clothing or furniture? Get warm water and a little Fairy washing up liquid or similar and use a cotton wool bud and dab a little at a time. Keep the bud clean and change frequently. Don't get it too wet as it may leave tide marks. I've just done the arm of a suede chair - bike grease. It worked but you can't rush it.

Possibly wet / baby wipes as an alternative to cotton buds, might be easier to 'feather' the edges if it's suede, and you'll probably need to feed it if it's not.
