Yes! I need to stop looking at cotics and ride my genesis - 20km from Monday. Get a hard tail and ride trails!

I'm up for a spin on the Capra even man (provided concessions are made for slower climbing)! I picked it up from a service in GAP and rode back via Ticknock earlier and got caught in that hailstorm. My fitness sucked, my strength sucked, my bike handling sucked, it was wet and cold and it was a blast 😂

Huge fan of these too!

If a Ti Switchback would do the job, I’ve just posted one for sale in classifieds..

Was just thinking of your bike when Stanton came up in discussion, stunning machine!

That's bloody lovely but sadly out of my price range at the moment.

What's a relatively inexpensive but decent trail bike for my 5'6" girlfriend?

• #16734
Full sus?

Also 'inexpensive' can mean very different things on this forum

I was thinking full suspension, and probably 27.5 wheels because short.

Still have mine so it can’t be that bad

Another big ride today. Set out early (7.00 a.m.) and was back before the worst of the rain.
Up and over Ranmore Common, across the A25 to Holmbury and up to the trig point, descend to the new pop up Heartwork coffee stop in Bulmer's Farm, Holmbury (highly recommended - a great cup of coffee and flapjack there for roadies and MTB'ers) then up to Leith Hill tower, down Summer Lightning to Westcott, up Ranmore Common and back via Stane Street and Epsom Downs.

Jeffsy?
Never ridden one but the cool kids like them.
My brother has a carbon Canyon Spectral which has been a fine trail bike.
My Mondraker Foxy is fine as well but it's not a good winter bike in the UK, with some of the bearings a bit exposed. They're also insanely expensive. I'm getting rid of mine this summer as I've got a banshee which fits better.
I've ridden my fair share of Stumpjumpers but not the newer ones. Certainly capable bikes but not great value for money. If I were buying right now I'd consider a Jeffsy.
The newish Ibis Ripmo AF is pretty cheap and also meant to be good, or the Norco Optic, but both 29er. Also not sure if £3k+ is really inexpensive but for a new fully mountain bike, I guess it is...

I swear this isn't a burner account of mine but yes...
YT Industries Jeffsy
YT Industries Izzo
Commencal MetaVitus, Nukeproof, GT, NS, Kona all have good options too but I think you'd be a bit mad not to just buy a 27.5 Jeffsy or a Commencal...

Strong pushback on the idea of full suspension, wants a hardtail to learn technique.

Why not isen...?

Fully rigid singlespeed for learning technique...

Nukeproof Scout 275 or Commencal Meta HT AM are both extremely good value to get started without spending a bunch.

I’ve got a spare, brand new in box Marin San Quentin 3 frame only in size small.
Have an ad for it here...
175mm drop.
31.6mm diameter.
Has the thumb lever at 90° to the handlebar as below.
I just need to be able to replace it, (ideally with a Factory Transfer, secondhand though is fine) so I guess £250 is about right-ish?
@Dammit : I think the 175mm is going to be too long for me in this frame unfortunately, I suspect the dimensions are quite close to the Fall Line and I can't comfortably pedal with the seat post at max extension when inserted as far as possible into the frame. If it was a 150mm I'd be all over it!
I think I've decided I want a Stanton Slackline, the classic style with straight tubes and no fancy gusseting really appeals to me and the geometry ticks all of the right boxes!
