  • Is it just me or have Rockstar gone to shit?

Tried to play GTA IV yesterday - story mode - can't get in because my Social Club account 'failed to initialize'. Googled it, lots of people on Reddit having the same problem. Only fix anyone has found that works is to set your system clock to the past.

Thought it's probably temporary, try again today - nope. Just raised a ticket with Rockstar and they have just told me the only fix that currently works is to... set your system clock to the past!

Can't help thinking this is related to the thousands of extra SC accounts needed to support giving away GTA V on Epic. It would be nice if they looked after their paying customers ey...

  • Hehe that crankset

  • I’m really enjoying control, and the way that the side missions are leading you to get more abilities and whatever the hell the blue shards are.
Currently more interested in the side missions than the main story, as you get to explore the different parts of the oldest house, find more loot and try your new abilities.
The only time I’m heading to the main story mission is when it’s required to level up as I’m underpowered for the level of enemy I’m getting or because I’m stumped on a side mission and a quick google shows I need to finish that part of the main story to unlock a skill to finish the side mission.

Was finding Spider-Man a bit of a grind with its open world ness, the cramped spaces (Relatively) of control makes for a more enjoyable experience. Not sure whether I’ll go back to Spider-Man now.

Anyone else find side missions more enjoyable than the main story?

  • Team "do all the side missions in a game before the main quest" all the way.

  • I usually do that but often end up so OP that I'll breeze through the main story and flick the final boss on their nose to beat them

  • Fifty-fifty really.

Recently I have been playing Horizon and decided to go find all the Tall Necks to uncover the full map, then wen tabs found all the vantage points and metal flowers, then went and did the main mission to get the fancylad armour, now I am well OP for side quests I skipped early doors.

  • I get anxiety about finishing the main storyline and not being able to go back and do the side missions, or by the time I do a side mission I'm way past that point in the story and it's no longer relevant. But also like Festerban I often end up overpowered by the time I come to do the main story.

  • the fancy armour makes the last bit of the game so much easier. there's a few bits in the frozen wilds still where it can be a massive ballache. but it lets you mix it up with the big motherfuckers without hiding behind a rock shooting arrows so it is kinda fun.

late game mega armour is usually a let-down though cos you get it when everything is already done. the vampire armour in the witcher 3 dlc was like that. I was basically at 99.5% completion when I got it.

  • Does anyone know - warzone is listed as a 180gb download and so is modern warfare. If I download warzone, like it and decide to get modern warfare is it another 180gb or does it include modern warfare but locked until you buy it?

Or the other way I guess, if I buy modern warfare is warzone a separate 180gb? I'm on PC if that makes a difference. Just slightly stuck for HDD space atm

  • I like the fancy armour, but let me tell you, Stealth is broken in HZD

  • I find that I always feel like I’m playing games slightly out of order, because I get dragged into the side missions more than the main story.
I’ve got no problem with being overpowered for boss battles because of it, feel like I deserve it for having completed so many other objectives. Also I don’t play games often enough (outside of our current situation) that I want to race through them, so side missions mean I get to enjoy it.

Remember finding one of the dragon side quests in god of war really early once I’d got the lake and that made me happy even though I was nowhere near the level to be taking it on.. was fun though..

  • I do this or get kinda bored because I've spent far too long looking in every corner and don't bother finishing the main story.

  • Quite like an on rails thing every now and then.

  • 180GB is the whole lot.

  • Still can't get over The Last of Us II finally happening

  • Just started Resi Evil 2 remake, top top banana

  • i caved and pre-ordered. Am playing through the first as a refresher

  • hope TLoU2 has a happy ending. not sure I can handle more bleakness at the mo.

  • Yeah keep trying to find the time to replay the first one, absolute stone cold all time classic

  • I love a detour on a side mission - mainly because i'm a sucker for a dopamine hit of ticking off lists - but also if it's a game i'm enjoying it helps delay the inevitable finish.

I'm actually really enjoying Spider Man - i got the Game of the Year version and have 100% the main game and the DLC, and am now going through it on New Game+, even though I've got a backlog of games to work through. I honestly don't know why i keep going back to it - I genuinely think it may just be because I just like web-slinging around a sunny Manhattan - i think they absolutely nailed that mechanic.

  • You might be in trouble when the updates drop!

  • i platinum'd the base game, and haven't played it since.
I liked it but i think it was the only game i played for a few weeks and got fatigued.

Maybe i'll pick up the DLC and have another crack

  • Yeah slipping into the rabbit hole of the side mission on a game you like is great, like you say just extending the time you're in that world, makes it more than worthwhile. Apart from when you're stuck on it, and won't let it defeat you. Just being stuck on a mission for days on end. Like trying to defeat all the valkyries in god of war, especially the queen. FUCK!!! was stuck on that for ages.

Spiderman whilst I love the free world roaming, I just find some of the side missions a bit random, or different skin on the same thing, catch this, follow that, do it with one gang then do it again, slightly differently with a different gang. Feels alot more grindy than Control or God of War. I was in the first quarter of it, before I put it down to start some other games I'd just brought, and I'll go back to it, but as mentioned before don't think I'll enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying control.
