  • Seeing the massive clearances everywhere, the frame pump peg, the side stand and the low end components, I would say that it os either not a Bianchi and if it is one, it would be a low end one made under licence for Bianchi

  • Any hints what this could be??

  • BCM is Bocama in case you weren't already aware of that.
The downtube shifter bosses and bottle cage boss make it relatively modern (since the mid 70's would be my guess)
A few questions - was it purchased in the UK? does it have a BSA bottom bracket thread?, what size seatpost does it take ? if that's Yes, Yes and 27.2 I'd say you're looking at a custom UK framebuilder.
What are the rear dropouts? are they Campagnolo?

The pointy seatstays are quite unusual - hopefully someone else on here will recognise them

  • Thanks, Rik on replay
I did know about bocama lugs and it has stamped 72 on one of the lugs, so my guess was 1972
I did also find Columbus tubes decal perished but managed to read its Columbus tubing.
Saved from the skip in south ease london
About BB, I haven't taken notice on that as used original BB with two right treads,
26 mm seat tube size, 125 mm rear dropouts, front 110mm

No stamps anywhere on the frame including dropouts and same question about seatstays ??

  • @_Inskipp__ can’t help with the frame but I’m pretty sure that’s a Giant TCR fork from late 90s to very early 00s. Don’t use any more paint stripper on it, I don’t think the resin will like it. Just sand it down.

  • The 72 stamped on the lug is the degrees for the frame. Under bb cable routing and top tube cable guides put it at the end of the 70's start of the 80's. Does the rear brake bridge have Allen key recess?

  • Thanks for the info on 72 stamped on top tube head lug ( didn't know that)
Yes recess on rear bake bridge, also I don't believe its original fork

  • Recess brake bolts were an 80's thing, not sure why but reminds me of a Mike Kowal / Autostrada.....

  • Just bought this bike, the frame looks potentially like something interesting, it has chater lea pedals and cranks, gb brakes, harden large flange hub on the front, unfortunately the rear was just something plain and newer.

The frame has LE98 stamped on the BB shell. The lugs are fairly ornate and the dropouts are unusual. BB shell has an oil port.

Anyone have any clue what this might be?

  • I guess the tape on the seat stay caps is hiding a lollipop, plus the frame number .. Les Ephgrave? If so then you are quids in lol

  • Wow good shout! I’ve just been looking over les ephgrave frames and there are a lot of similarities. The rear drop outs are exactly the same as an ephgrave on Hilary stones website, so I think you may have nailed it in one. Thanks!

  • Yup, that's an Ephgrave. Definitely quids in....

  • Awesome! This was a bit of a punt that paid off. Came as a lot of three old knackered bikes, two were just junk but this stood out.

    Early retirement ahoy!

    Thanks for the confirmations

  • bit of a crass question but what sort of value would be on this frame? I know a bloke who collects old English road bikes and rang him up about it, his first question was how much I was looking for on it and I was a little stumped on a price

  • ephgrave

eBay sold prices shows the frameset reaching £400-£500 depending on condition / model.

  • That frame number makes it around 1949 and the model looks like a "No1" from your photos.

  • It's a very early frame for Les Ephgrave.

  • Can we see some photos of the whole bike please?

  • sure, I've just clocked off for the day so I'm going to get all the junk off it and give it a clean up. the number on the BB isn't very clear but looks to be LE 598, from what I can tell that puts it at around 1953

  • There is a 1950 No1 model on CL with frame no 778 for reference http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/EphgraveNo1-1951.html

  • It looks just like that one in the link. Having looked at the lugs and the position of the pump it is near enough identical. So it’s a no1 model.

Taken a few photos after having washed it and taken the mudguards off.
