  • Dawes is getting there, not sure about the brooks as I'd like to leave this at the station now and again until the kingpin is sorted

  • Wildcat doing what it does best, slowly hauling stuff.

  • Fine looking bicycle. Not surprised it's slow going, aren't those tyres about 1kg each?

  • Yeah it’s heavy but normally loaded up when I ride it. Plus the gearing is spinny. I think a lightweight bike would handle worse with a loaded basket and or kid on the back? Did some light off reading with my kid on the back this afternoon. Tyres feel good on and off road.

  • Wildcat looks great with the basket on the front!

Not surprised it's slow going, aren't those tyres about 1kg each?

Yeah but it also looks like it could dig itself out of any hole you got stuck in! I need some Series Land Rover spec knobblies like those for over-winter duty on my dadbikke.

  • Wildcat is moving on to a new home

It’s replacement has arrived. A Kona Ute. Pretty excited about this one.

Initially will be leaving it pretty stock. I’m going to change the bars, saddle and fit a kids seat. Also remove the stand which is completely useless.

Longer term I’d like to 1x with a larger rear cassette. I'm considering a 26” or 27.5”conversion with some larger tyres. Something really bombproof with a high spoke count. I’ll happily take wheel suggestions. Halo SAS looks like it would do the job.
I'd also like to source some smaller panniers that work with the rear rack, fit a padded cushion for Mrs sacred, some ply runner boards, stoker bars, thumbshifter etc etc

  • This is great, really can’t wait to see what you do with it!

  • Swapped out the bars and stem. Took of the useless stand and the front shifter and mech. Its surprisingly light without anything on the rack, easy to pick up.

Next job is the Yepp maxi seat. The rear deck is slightly too wide. I have the rack adaptor so the easiest option is to fix the rack adaptor to the wood deck. I'd prefer to fix straight to the frame so I'm considering cuttong the deont part of the wooden dexk off and drilling out the mount a little to allow it to fit.

  • New cockpit, cables need shortening.

  • you got the panniers too! very nice. How easy do they come off?

would you be able to use the thule with the panniers? Was an issue on my bike, couldnt use both which is very stupid.

  • Racks slightly too big for the Yepp base

  • I only need to gain a few mm each side of the Yepp adaptor to clamp directly to the metal pannier. This seems much better than screwing through the ply. A longer bolt and drilling a little metal out here should suffice. Or bending the clamps a touch would probably also work.

  • @amey the pannier bags just hook on. The problem people seem to have is the rear rack is too oversize for most other panniers. The stock pannier bags are too big and weigh a ton.
I think it would be much better with some standard size pannier bags mounted behind the yepp seat. There would still be enough space for an adult to sit.

Thanks for the offer of the levers I'll take you up on that

  • Just went for a quick test ride.
    Rides surprisingly nicely unladen.
1x definitely a good idea no need for the big ring up front.
Needs a shorter stem and the stock saddle is awful.
Current wheels are solid axle. Is it a bad idea to switch to QR wheels?

  • Personally I'd stay with a nutted axle on the rear. Could go QR up front with no issues.

  • Subbed so I can steal all your good ideas and pass them off as my own. You can buy oversize pannier clips I think. I ditched the wheel spring thingy on my longbike cause it just rides better. Also holland bike shop for the cushions although we have been making do with a piece of foam from a record bag or bag inner tubed to the frame.
