They aren't for everyone as the seats sway slightly when riding, but I see it rather like a pendolino train, and indeed I get a higher average speed than on my road bike, but it uses different muscles than a road bike I've found so takes getting used to, but the upright position is just very comfortable for those of us feeling our knees and backs starting to creak.
Yes, the brakes are indeed 'Weinmann' Not a brand I've heard of, but components can be upgraded, but the frame is the bike really, especially with these.
