This highlights the plight of many on the streets - drug and alcohol, I sympathize with them.

We all have been through or know someone who has been in the dark place...

Also the plight of many off them, to the point where I don't think it's a distinguishing characteristic of the homeless. Not that he was, he just felt more comfortable roaming the highways than going home.

He's not alone, I used to buy meals for the homeless when I worked in the City and try to engage with them.

Some would decline the offer.

As you said, the street is their home now, it's their choice, who are we to doubt it...
