  • Volvo might have had it's last hurrah. Block is cracked.

  • I almost bought a Forester STI from Christchurch but i was massively put off by the thirst of them.

  • My father in law (being the stereotypical proper aucha bloke he is) used to drive road trains. He reckoned that when driving at night in the bush he'd have at least one 'roo strike a week. Most of them he didn't notice but if he hit a really big one the whole cab would shudder and the rig would lose speed momentarily. They're like rabbits at night and get attracted to then caught in the headlights. Most locals in the northern territories (where he's from) avoid driving at night like the plague because the risk is too high and worst case scenario you hit one, go off the road then lie injured in your car / ute / small truck for days and when found your corpse resembles a raisin.

  • Are they that thirsty tho'? I do love them, I was all set to buy one before we got given the Mazda that got t-boned...

  • Volvo might have had it's last hurrah. Block is cracked.

    ! More detail please.

  • That’s a bit toot, not the best of runs for you at the moment.

If it is dead surely you’ll be able to sell a lot of it if you’ve the space and time to strip it.

  • I still massively regret not snapping this up when it was offered on here. It was just slightly bad timing.

  • This is serious - I wanted to buy it...

  • An older (2006) 2.5 litre xt will give you somewhere around 24-30 miles /gallon depending on your driving style.

  • It's going to Tim Williams on Tuesday.

Let's all pray together that I get a job before August.

  • The car I've borrowed has a non-working stereo. No idea if it's the head unit or something else. How easy would it be for me to diagnose/fix this as someone who has no idea of car electrics? It's a 52 plate punto so I imagine shouldn't be too complex

  • First check the wiring is all connected (you might need specific removal tools to get the stereo out of the dash - a penknife might suffice)
If it looks all connected securely, try fitting a new fuse.

  • That sucks mate.

  • Dunno if end fully electric car talk is still going or not, but I was a passenger in a swanky high spec Audi E Tron the other day. Was very impressed in the small amount of time I was in the car.

  • Cheers. I assume you need some form of 12V power supply to test the head unit. Although I've just found my multimeter isn't in the toolbox where I thought it was so this could be a non-starter.

  • that really sucks dude. fingers crossed on both counts.

  • Easy was is to check the main fuse, find the fusebox and see if there are any blown fuses. Or looking the manual if it has one, or google to see what number the fuse is, and if the radio fuse is shared with some else such as the cigarette lighter if it has one and see if that works.

  • Didn't recognise that without the rear bumper, or exhaust.

Raymond Lowey design, designed so many iconic things.

  • My heart broke a little reading this. Fingers crossed it's fixable and doesn't cost too much whatever the outcome.

  • Original STI around 27mpg at best, heard of real life figures of 18mpg

  • so excited; i’m gonna put a deposit on a van tomorrow! a beautiful 1999 fiat diesel, aaaaah! anyone in camberwell will be welcome to come and admire it and ask me questions to which i don’t know the answer.

  • tmevans

    Too much excitement (about) vans?

  • this post has been here for three minutes and no one has replied congratulating me and saying how they always want to get one?!

it hasn’t got a cd player: anyone got one or have recommendations of how to get the rattling down to a level at which i would feasibly be able to hear a cd?

edit one person has, kind of

  • Rattling is pretty much inherent to the van experience ime. Going slightly deaf is probably the easiest solution.
