I guess noise transfer to the room above would be a massive issue.

I got these btw. Thanks for the recommendation. Won't be able to set them up for a couple of weeks or so, but shall report back.

Definitely recommend wall mounted for better sound.

Wall mounted PMC, think it's called Wafer is probably pretty good. Quite expensive though.

Check out my sick new power amp. Very airy.

Hypex! Which one did you go for, and what do you think?

NC252MP - 150w pc into 8 ohm
Sounds good so far. Gonna do a sketchy A/B test with a reversed speaker selector switch at some point.

What are inputs and speakers? Really interested in this!

Their boards are quite distinctive. Looks great. I look forward to finding out how you get on with it.
I'd like to replace the amps and processing in my Dynaudio Airs with a pair of Hypex. It might be viable price wise some day soon.

Chromecast Audio or turn table > TC754 Preamp > miniDSP > Hypex > Tannoy IIILZ + powered sub I built myself.

Sonos Arc getting very positive reviews today so I’ve preordered one.
Looking forward to going through a few Atmos soundtrack 4K blurays.

Old and new! I've never really understood how the minidsp fits into something like this...
Is it like this?CCA into minidsp
Minidsp as a digital crossover into multiple channels in the amp (and directly to sub)
Amp to individual cones within the speakers bypassing the internal crossovers -

If you're not using an AV amp how do you plug all the various stuff into a TV and still keep it neat (i.e. only one cable going to the TV)?
-
• #8315
Don’t you have to use an AV receiver to collect everything and send it all up 1 HDMI? Can’t see how else you would do it.
-
• #8316
Well that's what I do at the moment but just looking at the sound bar that soul linked and wondering what you'd do there.
It doesn't seem right that you'd have a neat solution like a soundbar but then loads of wires to the TV.

I worked for 5 years as a plasterer, just get a chisel out.
-
• #8318
You could do that, I just use it as an active crossover splitting the signal between the Tannoys and sub. Tannoys have their own original passive crossovers to split the Hypex signal between tweeter and bass/mid driver.

Initial impressions of the Hypex - I think it's got a little more gain than the Tripath it replaced, now I've adjusted the sub to this it's sounding really good.
Seems to have more channel separation between left and right, a more distinct soundstage I guess. Highs are very clear and distinct. Need to run the Tannoys full range without the sub to get a better sense of the low end. Sounds great anyway. Probably an amp for life if I can ignore the need to fiddle with things and swap boxes. From what I've read it doesn't care what you hook it up to, from 110dB horns to Linn Isobarik or electrostatics, it'll drive them all without batting an eyelid.

Balls, just got it into my head to replace the amp on the sub with a Hypex.

Glad you're happy! Lots of power is always good.
Did the board come with everything (ie power supply and connectors)? Are you going to put it in a case? -
• #8322
The MP range have a SMPS on the board, I got a cable set with it but the input is a ribbon type so need to make a shielded cable at some point. Case is on the way from China.
-
• #8323
And dare I ask what it cost all in with case?
-
• #8324
A bit less than Audiophonics, but not much.

Still a billy bargain if you compare with the big boy brands..
Speakers above heads always seem to create a lot more room reverb in my experience. I've never heard a ceiling system with the volume up though. The drivers never seem to be large enough to deliver bass but maybe the large cavity makes up for that.
