Anyone with an allotment?

Managed to massively screw up my sweetcorn and winter squash seedings this week. Left them double covered all day on weds while I was at work. Scorched them both, sweetcorn got off slightly better - lost about 6 but 3/4 squash died and the last one seems a bit peaky. You live and learn I guess.

Same probably with my pak Choi completely withered and died

One of my frost dead courgettes has a new leaf growing. Even better, Broad Beans are tasty!

Things are finally starting to take shape on the Bear allotment plot

Fucking cabbage white caterpillars have devastated my red Kale. Killed about 50 of the fuckers earlier.

Next year will think about fleece wrapping an entire bed that’ll be designated for brassicas.

Very neat and tidy

Last year they did all my broccoli in, barely harvested anything. Have planted nasturtiums in every gap ever this year, waiting to see how successful that will be

yep! my broccoli fucked this year. have reseeded - late to be going straight in the ground but got to do something...

Bit of progress, made proper arch for cabbage netting, started to uncover next section on left of 2nd pic (bottom rhs of first), planted 3 spare pumpkin plants in the small bit I cleared.

Some of my Onions had fallen so I brought them home to cook with. More Broad Beans too.

Biting the bullet and accepting my weed bin placement was poor. Moving it to a 1t rubble sack in the west corner under another plots cherry tree canopy shade & behind the playhouse. Robins feasting on critters.

I know it's technically too late to start trying to propogate asparagus seedlings. But is there much tolerance or are they too finnicky to start late?

Garlic started to rot, so all up. Onions likewise. Lots of space now though for leeks to go in soon.

Wish we’d planted some beans :(

Mine are all being murdered by black fly.

Had been spraying with a washing up liquid solution to no avail. So now blasting them off every couple of days with hose at full pressure. There just aren’t enough ladybirds to contend with them all.

We've been using neem oil on those little bastids with reasonable success

I’m tempted to pull out garlic up. Feels like time

I tentatively pulled 2 today after reading this. One more week I think...
