  • In the long lens photos it looks like groups are crowded together.

It’s nothing like (for example) a packed tube carriage and still roughly in-line with the WHO.

    And that’s after being chopper-kettled.

I almost never plan my outdoor trips around available space for landing two helicopters.

Some of the individual groups look like unlikely housemates.

Can you see that from behind your twitching net curtains? ;)

  • I don't think we disagree, I don't know if you've heard of Lord Carrington, but that was the world I grew up in, and it seems much more than a lifetime away now!

At the time it seemd grossly unfair that someone resigned purely because something bad happened on his watch, regardless of culpability, however the swing in attitude to the current mantra of, hang on at all costs if you can, is sickening.

  • I have. Something similar happened with Willy Brandt (although he was apparently burned out by the time he resigned).

Yes, it used to be understood that politics required honourable behaviour. As he already showed as pretend-Mayor and also last year, Johnson has no honour.

  • however the swing in attitude to the current mantra of, hang on at all costs if you can, is sickening.

I don't think that's the case currently, people resign or get sacked over all sorts of shit they should just apologise and get on with their job for, the cunts hanging on at all costs are the actual cunts who should definitely fuck off though.

  • I don’t understand the criticism. You’re not going to catch Covid 19 in Dorset, sat on a sunny beech with family or housemates

We’ll know in the next 20 days how save it is.

Cliff jumping, on what appears to be a difficult beach to reach by ambulance, during a pandemic is fucken stupid. The emergency services shouldn’t have bothered, they’ve got enough on their plates as it is.

  • This.

Durdle door is only accessible by sea, or by a footpath that follows the contours of the coast, i.e. over a big hill. There is no vehicular access.

  • Socially distanced TV tournament you say? Bring back the indoor league is my opinion. Be good to have some quality Cheese Skittles back on the telly.

  • This is it really. I’m never personally going to make a call for the emergency services to not go and help someone. But even outside of Covid times I’d hope this would be called out for being a stupid And dangerous thing to be doing. Another example, if someone smashed a load of drugs and required medical Assistance because they’re having a bad time, they’ve been an absolute idiot. If someone were to do it in the current climate they’ve still been an absolute idiot.

  • This kind of problem would be totally solved by an individually funded insurance based private health care system

  • Uh oh

  • fred truman smoking a pipe and drinking a pint on't telly

    what's not to like

  • From The Sunday Times

  • By now, I think the claim will be pics or it didn’t happen

  • fred truman smoking a pipe and drinking a pint on't telly

I'm up for that minus the arm wrestling of course. Who's the modern day FT? FF?

  • Johnson/the government have nothing to do with this.

I was warned to stay away from the marshes yesterday evening because our local gangs were organising a party. Then this happened:

And everyone parked up (illegally) in the bus lane on Homerton Road:

Then left some nice litter for the council to clean up.

I think it then moved to Detmold Road (note, Detmold is not the Pembury Estate).

Don't confuse out and out criminality with not following government guidance, the idea that the (fairly notorious) gangs round here are going to do that is laughable tbh.

  • Some more on Cummings Cottage.

  • Of course the Government has plenty to do with it. This may just be the Hackney version (and it's well-known that criminals will exploit unstable conditions), but it's essentially the same thing as what's been reported from elsewhere without apparent involvement from criminals. It's the Government's incompetence, hesitation when there should be no hesitation, going ahead when there should be no going ahead, and like the icing on the cake, the damaging Cummings affair.

And everyone parked up (illegally) in the bus lane on Homerton Road:

Depends on what time it was. The bus lane has limited hours of operation. If it was after 4, it wasn't unlawful. Here's the sign giving the hours of operation (slightly obscured):

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5517161,-0.0286351,3a,15y,245.03h,90.25t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVGWIOkhbRabh_mLX0i_c9A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

What was definitely illegal parking was that on the double yellow lines of the eastbound lane.

Don't confuse out and out criminality with not following government guidance, the idea that the (fairly notorious) gangs round here are going to do that is laughable tbh.

I can guarantee you that the vast majority of people who went to the party are not criminals. They'll have been a mixture of gang members, people with very marginal gang involvement, people who are sick and tired of staying indoors, people who have taken the Cummings signal and are fully intending to play by Cummings rules from now on, and people whose mates told them about the party and who just tagged along. Sure, the initial impetus may have been given by gangs, or one gang, but it's not as simple as that.

There was a picture in the Gazette this week of a heap of empty bottles and bottle boxes around a bench on the Marshes, so this wasn't the first time people left a large amount of litter there.

I think it then moved to Detmold Road (note, Detmold is not the Pembury Estate).

The initial report to police on Tw*tter was about the Pembury (Eltham House). I wouldn't be too surprised if there had been more than one after-party. To potentially add a third, there's a report on the Gazette web-site today about the Springfield Estate:

    https://www.hackneygazette.co.uk/news/crime-court/sprinfield-estate-lockdown-party-shut-down-1-6678309

No idea which one was the biggest--perhaps the Springfield one was--, but that was clearly not the only thing going on last night.

Civil disobedience, which this was, is not far from civil disorder, and both are manifestations of bad government. The buck stops at the top.

  • As far as skewed priorities go, it seems that Jacob Rees-Mogg wants to cause all sorts of difficulty because he may be worried about the lack of a jeering mob behind Johnson:

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/may/31/mps-furious-about-forced-return-of-physical-voting-to-commons

Far be it from me to subscribe to this scurrilous suspicion, of course.

  • Regardless of pathetic government messaging - attending a fuck off party is selfish and stupid.

  • Cliff jumping, on what appears to be a difficult beach to reach by ambulance, during a pandemic is fucken stupid.

Cliff jumping rookies attempting a 60m drop is stupid. That is all.

  • One of the Corona positives is that it has shown we can modernise systems clinging to tradition when it is essential to. I hope we don't go back to the schoolground nonsense of old too easily. Homelessness, climate care etc are also areas that were temporarily addressed to some extent from our response to the virus, when it has previously seemed immovable to do so.
