I'm taking the missus... so I wouldn't want her to be a third wheel for our weekend. :-*

Ha - fair enough. Ignore the naysayers telling you to avoid the Snake. It’s fine and you’ll need to get up it to do the Strines road towards Wigtwizzle, best road in the Peaks.
You’re spoiled for great beer. If you’re in Marple, you’re on the train line between Manc and Sheff.
Recommend Malt Disley and the Paper Mill in Chinley. Lots of interesting beers in both.

Last summer we stopped for a second breakfast at a community run pub in Bamford, and then headed north, taking a right at the reservoir. The Mortimer road ended up being one of the best roads I've ridden on.

Strines/Mortimer is a great/scenic road and there's Bank View Cafe at Langsett Reservoir.

Yup, Winnats is on your 200km route, near the C of Castleton, heading west after 175 km.
That route goes the ‘easier’ north/south way down Mortimer Road/Strines, same as the TdF. The twistiest section between 50 and 55 km is Ewden Bank, a proper climb going the opposite way, known locally as ‘Deliverance’ and where I saw last year’s TdY. It’s a great descent for you, though take it slow after the two 25% signs, as it’s not hard to miss the steep sharp right at the bottom and end up in the woods - hello Tom Boonen in the ToB.
That’ll be a great ride... just the 4380m of climbing.

We did something like that in 100mi on Tenerife the other week but the missus was not happy about it. I could barely keep the hire bike front wheel on the ground at some points too so not great. If I was going solo I'd totally smash the 200 route but I have to consider the missus (apparently, sheesh!). Maybe I could sneak out and climb it or I could just wait until another trip can be planned and I can do it then. No super rush to climb it - I've already done 33% bullshit in the Lake District and this trip is meant to be fun for her less sufferfest.

You’ll (both) be fine, I’m sure.
Nothing like the longer climbs on Tenerife, obvs, though despite looking amazing, Winnats with 180km in the legs might not be fun... but with at least a semi-compact, you can stay seated without doing wheelies for the watching sheeps.
The quieter/longer Mam Nick up to Mam Tor (nearby, though 80km into your route) is much more enjoyable, and maybe harder when it ramps up towards the top... good luck to anyone riding it fixed come hill climb season!

Winnats isn’t that bad. It depends on the wind but if you’re not battling a head wind, you’ll be fine.
Depends how many pints you’ve had in the Cheshire Cheese in Castleton.

It's Hippy. What do you think?

Depends how many pints you’ve had in the Cheshire Cheese in Castleton.
..then how many more pints in Ye Olde Nags Head...

Now you're getting the hang of my 'training rides'. :)

Nipped into the hills today, warmed up on Swiss Hill beforehand then hit C&F, Gun Hill & a few more short sharp ones around Wincle.
Great day to be out in the Peak. Elevation close to 5000ft.

Looking to do my first micro adventure in the Peak District and was wandering if anyone has got any good ‘off road’ routes. 35/40mm knobbly tyre kinda thing . Ideally starting in Matlock and stopping off camping for one night .

Not tried it yet, but the South Peak Loop could be worth a look.

No posts for nearly a year, the forgotten thread. Cross-post from the weekend ride thread:
Legs said no on the climb to Pym's Chair from Jenkins Chapel, so I got
the rare chance to take pictures on a weekend ride.First time I've ridden this as a loop, the combo of Blaze Hill, Pike
Low, Jenkins Chapel is punishing, very little recovery time and all
steep enough (for me at least) to deny gently spinning up them.Redemption of sorts by surviving the climbs of Whalley Lane and the
hill I know as unnecessary hill in Disley both used to avoid the A6
tourist traffic.

Anyone recommend a solid 100 mile route that I can take on this week ? Mixture of gravel and tarmac would be a bonus.
I'll be starting in Sheffield but happy to tweak other routes to accommodate that.

How gnarly do you like your gravel?

This descent from Priestcliffe into Miller's Dale was approaching the limits of rideable.
I'm thinking of a full loop of Howden Reservoir and a portion of Monsal Trail as ways to add some fun.

Even MrsE likes the Monsal trail - especially the tunnels. The coffee van at Miller's Dale used to be good as well.

Have a nosey at this:

Lots of traffic free/quiet lanes. Possibly a bit grav+ in places, but there's always options via the road. I don't think it'll take you down anything too rocky. Not recommended for road cleats. -

Cheers for that, looks great. Lovely mix of sections I already know and places I'll have to get the map out. Just need to splice in an extra 6 miles and I'll be good to go.
Do you know of a little church yard or anything on the way round where there might be a tap?
Thanks again.

Riding to and from the start might give you the extra mileage! On the way back, you could do Ringinglow, Wyming Brook, A57, then back into Sheffield either via Rivelin Valley, or the bridleway just south of the A57 that brings you into Moorbank Road in Crosspool. That'd be quite nice.
Recent reports suggest that the following places are open for refuelling:
Fairholmes (Ladybower reservoir) refreshment kiosk and toilets
Millers Dale Station refreshment kiosk and toilets
Parsley Hay refreshment kiosk and toilets
I'm sure there'd also be summat in Bakewell. If you want a download of the gpx, drop me a PM with your email address.
Strange, the combo 200k said it includes Winnats which I assumed would then be in one of the two it's made up of: http://www.delphcyclist.info/DarkWhitePerm.html
