Definitely, and I'm still non the wiser

  • I hope you detected my sarcasm ed. I am in full agreement. They need to answer if Cummings' actions has threatened public compliance to guidelines. Would also like to know what they and the Prime Minister knew about our Dom and when they knew. Full investigation please. Sack him in the meantime.

  • Despite Boris saying otherwise Covid threat level would reduce, its voted to remain at 4

Government was unable to reduce Coronavirus threat level below 4. Boris Johnson signalled on Wednesday it was likely to be reduced to 3, but the Joint Biosecurity Unit did not agree to this yesterday.

Lockdown lifting goes ahead nevertheless <=== ??? I am sure the JBU is feeling very useful right now...maybe as print their advice on cigarette paper :/

  • If he owns it, it's a second home. The motives don't matter from a legal perspective.

  • It seems to me that lifting the lockdown is partially intended to mitigate political damage caused by the Cummings thing. The government is no longer in control and cannot possibly hope to stop people meeting their friends/families any more. Might as well "allow" it and pretend everything is going to plan rather than admit you've fucked it. (Although this has merely shunted the burning wreckage down the road a bit, guaranteeing more deaths and cementing our position at the top of the leaderboard in Europe.)

Without taking away too much of people's fun with our little in-jokes that those who aren't on here 24/7 don't get, TS is generally considered never to ride his bike but to 'slain it, which means walking it along the street, because of the time he was featured on Stockwell Toilet Watch as Mr No Brakes:

ChainBreaker may correct me, but I think in his case it mostly comes from the fact that his bikes were broken most of the time for a while.

  • I am certain everyone is now going to wait till this lovely sunny weekend is over before arranging to see friends on Monday. smh.

  • Ha, 'Frederico'? Sounds like @freddo.

  • I hope you detected my sarcasm ed.

    Sarcasm? On here?

  • Groups of 6 from Monday.

This is it. THIS IS THE FUCKING MOMENT FOR BIKE POLO

  • ha yes, guilty!

*hangs head and walks sulkily off to the confessions thread

  • They have 0 authority on it, it's incredible. Even the last lifting of restrictions felt like the restrictions were being moved to be in line with what people were doing.

  • It seems throughout, the public and institutions have lead and the government has reacted.

The Conservative idea that governments aren’t responsible seems to be self-fulfilling.

  • ChainBreaker may correct me, but I think in his case it mostly comes from the fact that his bikes were broken most of the time for a while.

Nah, more because I moaned a lot about riding down the road. I'm a slightly heavier chap and hills suck.

  • The police say that Belly Mujinga's death was not caused by the spitting incident:

In a statement, BTP said senior detectives had concluded “there is no evidence to substantiate any criminal offences having taken place, and the tragic death of Belly Mujinga was not a consequence of this incident”.

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/may/29/police-close-case-of-rail-workers-covid-19-death-after-spitting-incident

I thought spitting was assault? She may not have died as a result of contracting COVID-19 from this incident, but I thought there's a criminal offence regardless? It may just be that the reporting isn't clear.

  • Spitting at someone is assault. But most police officers, in my experience, have only the haziest idea of what the law is, and tend to just make it up as they go along, based on whatever is expedient at the time.

  • Well, so what really happened? Surely in such a high-profile case you should be able to get advice from someone who does know the law?

The only thing I can imagine to explain it is that she wasn't actually spat at, but then why would it have been reported in the first place?

  • Yeah this is what I meant by the disastrous part. If it's us and them you may as well tell the privileged not to use their expansive gardens. Not really logical.

  • Well, so what really happened?

    Fucked if I know!

Surely in such a high-profile case you should be able to get advice from someone who does know the law?

I'm sure they could've done so. Whether they did or not, I've no idea.

  • Confession: I was at a 6 person garden gathering when the announcement was made.

  • You were just testing your eyesight.
