There really is a point where you have to move to the mountains to progress.
The watershed moment for me was a day we spent in Austria last year where we covered 3000m vertical in about 15 hours. My average heart rate over those 15 hours was about 150bpm and we felt strong at the end of the day, but we didn't manage to get across the glaciers we needed to before the afternoon sun had softened the snow bridges. I felt really down that I was working hard but not covering the distance necessary, which was the point where I finally realised that my weight had to come down too.
Turns out that strength training has been a big part of that. My back is less fucked now days too.

Or train with a level of specificity that would kill you with boredom.
We’re currently looking at moving to the Lakes or Scotland as a result!

Yeah, 100 laps of the hill in Greenwich Park with a weighted pack would wear thin very quickly indeed.

I used to do laps of the stairwell where I worked on my lunch hour. Big boots on and 20kg in my rucksack, then I’d get the lift down to save my knees. Fun times.

Gyms have opened up here so I did some 'light' squats and bench. Three months off and I had DOMS by the end of the first set. It' s been so long, felt like I had no idea what I was doing but it's amazing what a difference its made to my mental outlook.
Plan since lockdown has been to hope and pray the gains come back quickly. Let's find out.

Just started getting into kettlebell workouts. Very new at this - have done a couple of Joe Wicks ones.
Any good videos people would recommend for beginners? Any general tips? I'm getting pretty knackered so I think I'm doing something right.

This seller has the best priced kettlebells I've seen. It's a pre-order so still won't get them for another few weeks.

I'm starting a period of attempting to put on some muscle starting next week or so. I'm finding strength training awesome to speed up fat loss.
I take Creatine when I'm focussing on muscle gain. I keep reading about various other amino acid supplements that might help things along too. Any forum recommendations for something to try?
The internet is a confused mess of advice and sales nonsense when it comes to supplements.

Come on Iain, it has been nearly two years since I showed you up. Time to move on.
Ah fair play, I would say that for proper improvement you need to be training on very steep hills tho. Which just isn’t really possible for a lot of people (myself included during lockdown).
Yorkshire is great, but there isn’t anywhere I can get 1000m of continuous ascent over a short distance.
Either way - sounds like you’ve found something that’s working for you!
