Pretty damn solid.
No fancy design, just made to be bloody tough.
Only thing I could do would be use m6 bolts, but frame is m5 so...

Not much SBO chatter on here recently, people still putting some miles under the wheels? I've been out on my Bridge Club a couple of times a week and would really like to go for a little tour but haven't worked out if that feels like the Right Thing To Do yet.
I'd probably take a hammock and all my stuff so not likely to come into contact with anyone, but with wild camping I wonder whether local attitudes would be harsher than usual if I was discovered.

This is a great looking machine.

Anyone using the Truckstop bars? I have been looking at these compared to the Richey or Genetics, any feedback welcome

I've always fancied a Bridge Club, that looks great.
I reckon hold off a bit, camping is definitely still out of the guidelines and you're right that people might not take kindly to you if you were found. -

Yeah thanks, it's a great bike. I used to have a KM which was nice but when I saw this I knew it would be the kind of bike I would use all the time.
First time I bought a full bike from Surly rather than just a frameset. They did a good job on the spec although it isn't exactly a bargain for some mid-range kit. That said, as it comes it is only a £40 pair of hydros away from being good enough not to worry about. I found that liberating as it takes away all the thought used up on ultimately minor differences in component choices. I do enough of that elsewhere!
I changed out the Promax cable ops for an older equivalent to these https://www.decathlon.co.uk/mt200-brake-kit-id_8565542.html and converted the stock non-tubeless tyres to tubeless. Works fine. I then changed the saddle & grips as you do and finally the cassette, as I found 11-40 too wide for where I live. 11-32 gives more usable gears.

Few little bits done.
Hoping to right it this weekend.
Found my surly clamp, and a bolt to fit, win!

I bit the bullet and bough some Truck Stop bars from Bikemonger- look like they have the long hooks I love on my Cowbells

Straggler in road mode riding hills at sunset.
End of May was the 4 year anniversary of getting the frame at about 11pm for coming DFL in that year's Gravel Dash 100, riding the whole thing singlespeed and rigid with an Ortlieb messenger having decided to do it on a whim and ended up on the last hillside waiting for an ambulance as one of Charlie's then-mechanics washed out on chalk and broke his femur.

Are you managing to get away with not using a pin in the drive side dropout (ps these dropouts are so shit - worst thing about the frame in my mind)? I find the wheel slips forward in mine if i lay down too much power.
-
• #1665
Same on the cc, I've managed to bend the drive side pin on mine due to wheel slip.
I fixed it with better skewers. Hope steel wounded up so tight that it takes a tire leaver to undo. -

Shimano XT hubs and skewers.
Worst thing about the dropouts is that I can fit 29x2.0" Conti RaceKing semi-knobble tyres between the status, but have to drop pressure to get the wheel out.

Got bored one day and had a bottle T-cut for the car so decided to give the bikes a little freshen up. One of the hottest days of the year and I take the “winter” bike out. I had a 6800 FD on here but the long arm kept fouling the mudguard and making tyre rub when in the big ring. Swapped for a R8000 FD and problem solved ツ

Nice cranks ;-)
I've had mine on the Straggler for 3.5 years now (intermittent use) and I've got a drivetrain tick that I first thought was the chainguide (which did need adjusting), then the chainring bolts (one was worryingly loose, two others worth tightening), then pedals/cleats (the XT SPDs that were on there did have a bit of movement between pedal and shoe, but it's still there with the SPD-SLs... Might be time to deep-clean the drivetrain and check for chain suck. And then check the BB bearings.
That seatpost clamp is crap, need a 2-bolt to avoid unwanted tilt when trying to tractor up rough climbs.

Was this model subject to the safety recall? If so do you have the required parts? Thanks. -
