  • Not much SBO chatter on here recently, people still putting some miles under the wheels? I've been out on my Bridge Club a couple of times a week and would really like to go for a little tour but haven't worked out if that feels like the Right Thing To Do yet.

I'd probably take a hammock and all my stuff so not likely to come into contact with anyone, but with wild camping I wonder whether local attitudes would be harsher than usual if I was discovered.

  • I've always fancied a Bridge Club, that looks great.
I reckon hold off a bit, camping is definitely still out of the guidelines and you're right that people might not take kindly to you if you were found.

  • Yeah thanks, it's a great bike. I used to have a KM which was nice but when I saw this I knew it would be the kind of bike I would use all the time.

First time I bought a full bike from Surly rather than just a frameset. They did a good job on the spec although it isn't exactly a bargain for some mid-range kit. That said, as it comes it is only a £40 pair of hydros away from being good enough not to worry about. I found that liberating as it takes away all the thought used up on ultimately minor differences in component choices. I do enough of that elsewhere!

I changed out the Promax cable ops for an older equivalent to these https://www.decathlon.co.uk/mt200-brake-kit-id_8565542.html and converted the stock non-tubeless tyres to tubeless. Works fine. I then changed the saddle & grips as you do and finally the cassette, as I found 11-40 too wide for where I live. 11-32 gives more usable gears.
