Compare it to Zwift which is 2x the cost that you'd use for a few hours a week.
Zwift is not actual cycling
-
• #4978
actually cycling is wayyyyy more expensive, one thing leads to another and you HAVE to build a bike around some niche rim brakes and S&S couplers
-
• #4979
RWGPS is much better for this - being able to flick between its own map, Google maps and OSM maps makes it much easier to judge a road's size and I used it yesterday to find a cool bike path alternative in Beaconsfield to cut out some main roads.

Jules, James, Neil and Ross.
Who’s Thomas Arkell?
-
• #4981
Anecdotally, my road racer acquaintances are all chasing KOMs in lieu of actual racing.
-
• #4982
A young guy who seems to be taking up a lot of KOMs lately.
Ross
Talking about you in 3rd person? ;)
-
• #4983
This. Since lockdown my second favourite thing to grabbing KOMs myself is flagging other people's KOMs.
"Yes, I'm sure you did 70kph for 2 mins, through three RABs..."

Oh yeah he’s ELV, I remember now.
Mine are all down in Kent. Spent last summer finding 4 min climbs and smashing as many as possible in ~100km.

The latest comms is confusing re; payments and conversion to new pricing...

I have always used Strava for route planning, which is now a paid feature. I just signed up for the free 60 day trial to be able to make a route. I don’t really care about KOM’s or leaderboards or kudos, so I wish I could pay less. Just tried Komoot and Ride With GPS on my phone. I don’t like how Komoot does the route for you, I like being able to draw it myself, and I’m not going to pay for RWGPS. Looks like I’ll be staying with Strava. I’ll play around with Komoot on a computer tomorrow, but I’m not really feeling it. I’m too used to Strava’s route planning now.

I’m not going to pay for RWGPS
You don't need to to do a lot of route building.

I’m not going to pay for RWGPS
The free version of RWGPS is very good. RWGPS generally isn't good for route planning on a phone. On a proper computer, it's excellent though, even the free version.

Yeah, think I used it free for the first TCR then started paying not really out of necessity for any feature (although they did restrict something at one stage, I just can't recall what) but because software engineers gotta eat :)
Thought the phone app is really just for navigating - I've never plotted a route on it.

I think it was some editing tools, like splitting/merging multiple routes. Also downloading routes for offline use wasn't free. But now it seems included in the free one. Plus they are making heaps of changes now, all to make it more user friendly.

When I try and save a route on RWGPS on my phone in the app, it sends me to a subscription page. Can routes be saved on a computer for free? I’ll have a look tomorrow I guess.
As I said before, I only really used Strava for route building and tracking of rides, so I don’t need to pay to see some leaderboard.

• #4992
Yes.
-
• #4993
Also, is there any app that will show the grade of a climb in %? That’s one thing I’m interested in.
-
• #4994
There's a bunch of other sites that let you plan routes

Komoot

• #4996
If you go to http://komoot.com/g and use the code DIRTYKANZELLED you get a free region.

OSM cycle map on RWGPS seems to be decent. these are the same two areas I posted on the last page
The highlighted NCN-type routes are a bit distracting, shame you can't turn them off. The auto-routing is also intrusive sometimes but seems to behave better if I set it to 'optimise for driving'

This. Strava wankers not solely bashing out 5k runs in world record times.

Asking here, apologies if better thread elsewhere
Myworkouts supports speed & cadence recording plus my new phone would work with zwift/trainer road.
Can I simply buy any brand of ant+ bluetooth sensors to get this all going? Is anyone on here using a similar setup?

Ant+ on your mobile?
How many by Thomas Arkell?
