  • Thomas (FB) (is on here too) has a supply you can buy or make a custom one. He is behind Holloway/Tufnell Park Roads for collection).

  • And the nominative determinism award goes to @ |³|MA3K

  • Thirteen fucking years.

    They are threes.

  • This is the sort of thing I'm looking for, thanks.

  • Back in stock today if anyone is interested.

I've looked at a LOT of crap face masks and these seem like one of the better/better value options but I've not seen them IRL.

  • We have them. They're good.

  • Pretty shocking that it took the WHO so long to recommend masks for the public but at least they finally have.

The new guidance recommends that the general public wear cloth masks made from at least three layers of fabric “on public transport, in shops, or in other confined or crowded environments.” It also says people over 60 or with preexisting conditions should wear medical masks in areas where there’s community transmission of the coronavirus and physical distancing is impossible, and that all workers in clinical settings should wear medical masks in areas with widespread transmission.

  • A new British study released today calling for masks to be worn in public settings.

The study found that if people wear masks whenever they are in public it is twice as effective at reducing the R value than if masks are only worn after symptoms appear.

In all scenarios the study looked at, routine face mask use by 50% or more of the population reduced COVID-19 spread to an R of less than 1.0, flattening future disease waves and allowing for less stringent lockdowns.

Experts not directly involved in the latest British study were divided over its conclusions.

Do we think Public Health England will eventually make masks mandatory in shops?

  • Friend of mine is making masks. #csb

  • They good? Got a link?

  • They literally just this second arrived in the post.

  • I just took my daughter on the train for an orthodontist appointment. Loads of signs saying wear a face covering, almost no one (including staff) wearing anything.

  • I think they said it was compulsory on the Tube recently didn't they? Does that also apply to trains?

  • It's only suggested at the moment, becomes mandatory on all public transport on Monday. I expected people to start wearing masks already (I did) but apparently not.

I travelled off peak on Great Northern into Moorgate and the trains were very empty, counted 6 people including me getting off at Moorgate.

  • Ah, didn't read that bit. Hadn't planned on using PT anyway but you never know when you might need to don a mask and ride the underground. Weeee

"From Monday 15 June, the use of face coverings will be compulsory on our services."

  • Nothing quite like British exceptionalism. But when the government announces on 4th June that face coverings will be mandatory from 15th of June I guess this is the kind of situation we end up with. They could very easily have made them mandatory on 5th June and only introduced the fines from the 15th June. Then again, that would require the sort of logic, competence and clear communication that has been entirely absent throughout the COVID-19 response.

  • you never know when you might need to don a mask and ride the underground

Yup. We are in the phase of love 'em or hate 'em, don't leave the house without one.

  • Nice, they look good. Free art too.

  • Their daughter is Chief of Sick Graphics and Wash Your Fucking Hands Enforcement.

  • Haha, excellent job title.

  • I did ask but "She’s probably done with masks now, got through a load of fabric, about 250+ made in total."

  • Oh wow, yeh that’s a lot of masks. Thanks anyway though.

I bought a couple of handmade ones from an eBay seller. Turns out she’s a medical student and she’s made/sold over 700 masks. Cha ching.

  • My friend was just doing them and giving them away to friends. She's fashion designer and creative type so had a lot of material to use up and I guess more time than usual.
