  • I have always used Strava for route planning, which is now a paid feature. I just signed up for the free 60 day trial to be able to make a route. I don’t really care about KOM’s or leaderboards or kudos, so I wish I could pay less. Just tried Komoot and Ride With GPS on my phone. I don’t like how Komoot does the route for you, I like being able to draw it myself, and I’m not going to pay for RWGPS. Looks like I’ll be staying with Strava. I’ll play around with Komoot on a computer tomorrow, but I’m not really feeling it. I’m too used to Strava’s route planning now.

  • I’m not going to pay for RWGPS

The free version of RWGPS is very good. RWGPS generally isn't good for route planning on a phone. On a proper computer, it's excellent though, even the free version.

  • Yeah, think I used it free for the first TCR then started paying not really out of necessity for any feature (although they did restrict something at one stage, I just can't recall what) but because software engineers gotta eat :)

Thought the phone app is really just for navigating - I've never plotted a route on it.

  • When I try and save a route on RWGPS on my phone in the app, it sends me to a subscription page. Can routes be saved on a computer for free? I’ll have a look tomorrow I guess.

As I said before, I only really used Strava for route building and tracking of rides, so I don’t need to pay to see some leaderboard.
