Sorry, now edited. Losing my mind in this heat.

I'm not tester, but I've got a Clarkes set from Machine Mart. It's worked well so far, and it's had a lot of use.

Tester approved tap set?
The answer for just doing a few things in your lifetime is basically "whatever". I got my M6 taps decades ago from RS. Even a reputable brand 3-piece set (lead, second, bottom) of M6 hand taps is going to be under £20 and a tap wrench for small sizes is about £10. To be honest, going into aluminium or soft steel you can probably get all your lifetime needs out of something cheap off of Amazon or ebay.

Tester approved bearing press for BB92 installs and integrated headsets?
Edit: answer above, any screw press
-
• #960
press for...integrated headsets?
IS headsets are a slip fit, you only need a press for EC and ZS
-
• #961
Probably because I’m not sure what headset I’m after.
“ Headset size:top 1-1/8 down 1-1/2”
China carbon 29er — Workswell 162
Looks like this - is this integrated?

@gbj_tester can I ask a question. Setting up a rigid steel drop bar bike for mixed road and off road riding. Is a kalloy uno stem like this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254033217601
Going to be solid enough for the off road ing or should I just get a thomsonx4? -
• #964
should I just get a thomsonx4?
You should never get a Thomson. The Kalloy one will be fine
-
• #965
Excellent. What’s the issue with thomson, overpriced?
One more for you if you don’t mind, what’s the tester approved wipperman 1/8 chain please or are they all ok. -
• #966
Check the first post for chains!
The Wipperman fugly zinc coated one is good for rough stuff
-
• #967
@fizzy.bleach I wasn't aware of that list, thanks!

• #968
What’s the issue with thomson
Inappropriate manufacturing method. If you were doing custom lengths and angles, milling from billet would be a tolerable compromise. For a large production run of stock sizes, net shape forging is both stronger and cheaper.

Interesting, thanks

Is there an approved mini v/lever combo? I saw you recommend the Sora/Tiagra mini v's but couldn't find a lever recommendation. Will be using bar end shifters
-
• #972
IAMT, but I've always got on well with the TRP RRL SL levers, or the RRL alloy if you don't want the Drillium. I've only ever used them with TRP CX mini-Vs, but I'm assuming they'd play nicely with Shimano Mini-Vs.
-
• #973
RRL alloy
£25 at planet x, they look ideal!
Thanks -
• #974
That's a good price. In fact, I'm tempted to order a set for myself, just in case...

If you want shiny silver levers, Cane Creek SCR-5s are also good in my experience. A bit pricier, but much shinier.
What is the Tester approved tap set? I need to re-tap a seat post binder hole which uses m6 bolts. Not looking to spend a fortune please.
