I have a weird thing with Nick Drake where I love him in theory (on paper he's entirely up my street) and generally do love him too... but I find that I can't listen to too much because it makes me too fucking sad. I have the same thing with Brian Wilson. I just find listening to him heartbreaking and not in a cathartic way... just in an unbelievably fucking sad way.

Very similar thing with Jackson C Frank, heartbreaking too.

It is a tough listen. I find Pink Moon specially so...
It took me bloody days to get the picking pattern for River Man down for a sort-of Five Leaves Left tribute show last year and in the end we dropped it as the singer couldn't cope with the timing and I blame her not one jot. Ended up doing Way To Blue and Time Has Told Me (latter at 11.00 below, with no me in shot, hurrah).

Sometimes I get sad thinking about Brian Wilson when I'm not even listening to his music. I'm so happy I got to see him play live last year. I think I would have been genuinely scarred if I hadn't seen him or Neil Young play live.

Scared or scarred?

I have the Remembered For A While book that includes his dad’s diary in the months running up to Nick’s death. Haunting stuff.

Betsy! Nice work Rickster. Jeez, Siobhan has a voice.

I can listen to ND all day without a problem, sad music makes me happy... Strange... Same goes for Big Star's 3rd or Chris Bell's stuff, can't get enough of it...
I have a problem listening to too much Chrome or Silver Apples, that fucks my head after more than an hour, sends me a bit doolally...

Agreed, Pink Moon can be a difficult listen once you’ve read about how low he was when it was recorded, and you can hear it in his voice. It’s still my favourite album of his, despite being unbearably sad.
As for ND tunings, BEBEBE or gtfo.

Just one or two touch-ups left to do after this, gonna let it dry for a couple of days now... Don't wanna leave the neck with no tension on it for too long, I'm pretty happy with it!

How rad is this Dunable Moonflower! It belongs to Kerry McCoy from Deafheaven. Dunable make some really really lovely guitars!

Flames look rad Joe. Nicely done.

I just killed an hour, in which I should been working, doing this for no reason...

Looks good!

Was fun to figure out and record (double track ALL THE THINGS). Had to stop when I bust my top e string trying for that massive Harrison bend in the lead guitar.
Quite pleased with it really. It's my Riviera doing the arpeggios and the doomy bass riff and my Tele doing the lead. 6 Guitar tracks, all played though a SF Champ with an SM57 on it.

Only if I can shop for guitar bits while I'm on calls.
Q: Are these the CTS mini-pots or are they full size? I need the smaller ones to fit through an F-hole.

• #8747
Scrap that. Just noticed they're not the right shaft type.

Ordered some CTS mini audio taper from WD Music.

I feel your pain. I've been in a frenzy of part buying!

Mmm... Callaham 3-saddle vintage hardtail bridge. Just fitted it with the aide of the shittiest screwdriver I could find in my better half folks house, was not a pleasant experience but all screws remain in good order even if my hands don't.
It is a lovely lovely thing. Feels very luxe, much quality, many high-end etc.
Still need to twiddle intonation and string height and the Duo-Sonic is off for a proper setup and a bone nut as soon as my replacement tuners arrive anyway but I love this guitar more everyday!

I watched an old beeb doc about ND the other day. It was beautiful. His sister was good value. And his mum's songs could have been any of his records. Weird scenes. Poor damaged fucker.
