  • So I have some tightness behind my knee.
    Before TCR I had my saddle raised a little and a shim fitted under the cleat on the same side.
    During TCR I had achilles pain and slightly remedied by lowering saddle change of position. Again on the same side.

    My saddle is now slightly lower (few mm) than my fit prior to TCR.

    Since lockdown volume has increased largely turbo based. More power focused. I suspect bringing me a little forward in my position on the saddle.

    For reference I have two pairs of shoes available one without the shim.

    Given current lockdown situation and I need to try remedy it myself with the help of internet bikefit obviously. I have some thoughts but would be good to hear others.

  • What's the difference between current height and fit height? I would raise my saddle to where it was at fitting time unless it's quite a big difference in which case I'd start with a 2-5mm raise and see how that went for a week first.

    I'd probably also reduce load to allow the damage done to heal.

  • I thought behind knee was saddle too high or far back?
    Probably about 3-4mm lower currently, as a kind of half way from where I was during TCR and fit.
    So I could raise it by that 3-4mm?

    Behind knee - fleshy bit on the back of your leg? Try raising your saddle to give you a bit more room/extension.
    Behind knee - inside your leg behind the kneecap? If you mean this then I'm not sure

    You're more likely to have overuse problems during TCR, so I would try bringing your cleats back to protect the achilles. You then to compensate your shorter foot extension you will have to lower your saddle a little

    What was the shim for?

  • Yeah the fleshy bit, I’d say probably lower towards calf.

    The shim is to address slight imbalance make me square-er (!?) at the hips not drop out to my right side.

    Trying to read the difference between a CAADX 51cm and Ribble CGR SL.
    Looking for something with shorter reach and more relaxed geo for my gf.

    1. Is 6mm less reach and 0.5 degree difference on the seat tube going to be noticable? (I realise that's very hard to answer).
    2. the longer trail on the Ribble - would it be more suited to using a shorter stem?

  • It could be the current position is fine but you've overused it into a painful state. Are you doing any stretching? Your hamstrings might be tight. For me this normally equates to pain in the lower back but I guess it could also impact the other end towards the knee. Same as tight calf muscles.

  • Get out of the saddle more is the cheapest fix.

    If you let go of the bars are you immediately tipping forwards? What's the saddle tilt like? Are you bars slammed? If fore/aft is wrong you could be sitting on the nose of the saddle rather than getting your arse bones on the wider part.

  • If saddle is too far back you might be sitting on the nose to much. If the same bike works outside ok then it's probably just lack of movement, static position that's exacerbating the numb dick.

  • I've shoved the saddle forward.
    When I ride with no hands on the bars it feelz like my sit bones are right.
    Now to just keep th there when I put my hands on the hoods.

  • Question time: does anyone know if the new Keo pedals have the same dimensions (q-factor, stack-height, etc) as the older ones?

    I'd like to upgrade to the newer ones with the metal plates but am worried it'll mess with my bike fit (which was quite expensive and fixed a bunch of recurring injuries).

  • Quite happy with my cleat set up (using SPDs), no knee issues and comfortable amount of float. I’m starting to get heel rub on the crank arms though. Any advice? Cheers :)
