Awesome to see thee flame guitar back home. Those poles don't line up too well, have you tried raising them? It's supposed to make a bit of a difference.
Donor pickup is a neat idea. Or, wonder if anyone could make you a hotrodded baseplate/coil/magnet assembly and just reuse the cover...

It would be great to find a cover and do as you say but these pickups seem to be very thin on the ground... See how we go with your suggestion, might not even need one! They do have a rep for sounding a bit shit, would love to get some more mids out of it somehow...

Dremel and one coat of paint later... This Tamiya enamel is a bit shit, coverage is terrible... I'm sure a few coats will look good, I should've put a primer down really but I know Kim didn't so... 🤷♂️

Flame guitar plays really great, still not 100% happy with the pick-up so not that sure what to do about that... It isn't pokey enough, still too hollow sounding and as it's an 'important' guitar I don't feel very comfortable messing with it, thinking about getting a trashed one and getting that rewound to where I want it to be...
Bought some Tamiya enamel paints today, may try and get the flames back on next week... 🙃
