  • It's that same Tory common sense that JRM expressed when he said it was just common sense to ignore the authorities telling you stay in your burning flat at Grenfell

  • Lots of comparisons to Neil Fergusons treatment coming out on twitter too, Laura K getting a LOT of flak

  • The paper is not in the accepted two column format for an academic submission.

Fwiw this is not always the case

  • Laura K is looking very much like part of the administration today.

  • Attorney General has tweeted what he did is OK as just being a good parent, mind boggles

  • Which looks like a nailed on defence of me going to see my folks tomorrow.

  • The right wing Sunday papers will be interestin to see tomorrow; they will either completely ignor the story or go in for the kill. I believe that will decide his fate.

  • Suella Braverman? The worst lickspittle of them all.
And, as noted on twitter, the attorney general is there to defend the government, not the law.

  • Ah ok, that makes total sense, not something I'd thought of. Thanks for that!

  • The whole Cummings situation makes me feel ill.

    This.

  • Sounds like they have all dodged today's press conference, spineless cowards.

  • Fuck me. First question at presser preceded with comment about how the questions are randomly chosen in advance by a polling organisation.

Can't wait for Laura K to get her question slot.

  • Schapps is there, trying to dodge the first Cummings Question.

  • The media are going to be what decides the outcome arent they. If they decide to not let it go, a couple of days of briefings like this with all the focus being on Cummings and not the wider pandemic and I don't see how they won't buckle as it is far to much of a distraction

  • Cummings is running the show, he’s had many front bench ministers including the health secretary backing him up today, I can see him staying. Does anyone else think this could bring down the government?

  • Fingers crossed.

  • What an entertaining thing that was to watch

  • I think that is up to the media and Boris:
media get bored it will blow over
Boris fires Dom it will blow over
Boris doesn't back down and Media keep it as a big story and it could get pretty messy for the Tories, especially as apparently most rank and file Tory MP's don't like Dom, so once again the party can turn on itself

Labour and SNP aren't going to let it go at least

  • I guess the media will keep talking about it until it’s clear that the public don’t give a fuck. Or it turns out they do and then yes then they’ll try to get rid of him. It will come down to the public’s mood on it, I think.

The childcare thing is going to be difficult to poke holes in.

  • I think you are wrong. I think the public will be extremely angry about this. Most people have made sacrifices and wouldn't have dreamt of breaking the laws / guidelines this way. The last thing most parents would do is drive half way across the country to infect the rest of their family.

  • yeah, will the media get bored, or will they allow their friends in the Tory party to get away with yet another clanger? It's a mystery.

  • To be fair, they have the great news that Wellington is getting a new train station, so that might take up the front page of the Sunday papers
