  • The crackling and banging is uncombusted fuel lighting off in the exhaust - could be it's own thing but I believe it's meant to resemble WRC anti-lag.

    My old Volvo would shoot flames out of the exhaust if you abruptly shut the throttle from wide open, which was just the last bit of fuel that was injected as the throttle was shut that therefore didn't combust fully. We could have tuned it to keep injecting fuel for a second or so after the throttle was shut to make the crackles and bangs, but honestly that never occurred to me as a thing to do.
