Sounds legit. £7k smashed on a frame and then selling it for £1.2k.

High end frames have little re-sell value unfortunately. You'd like to think you could recoup half but no one would spend this much on used plastic unfortunately.
I bought a Parlee Track for £1,200 a couple of years back, which was custom made for an Irish Track Semi Pro. Same story, RRP was £6kish.
I think those sellers must have a 50% trade discount, then buy those bikes with a business of sorts so get the VAT back or simply write it off then get cash / PayPal pocket money when reselling
