  • Bit of a random yarn if I may.

Just been out for a race pace interval session and totally blew up, unable to complete the session . It should have been very achievable. Have nailed similar runs very recently. So, what was different?

Part of it will be the warmth. It always takes me a few weeks to get used to running in summer temperatures. But the big thing is the Chinese takeaway I had last night. Every time I have a Chinese I put on anything up to 2.5kg in water weight overnight and blow up like a fucking balloon. It has taken me years to realise it, but I always struggle to run the day after a Chinese. It feels like I've halved my fitness overnight but I'll be fine again within a day or so.

Is anybody else here this badly affected by salty food or am I more of a fanny than I realised?

  • Hehe, this sounds wildly familiar, except Chinese food in China is super super oily too so you also have that feeling of needing to know EXACTLY where the nearest public toilets are. And let me tell you, Chinese public toilets are not nice.

  • I had assumed that there were few similarities between what I order from my local and what you eat in China but maybe I'm wrong!

Our local takeaway is not very oily for a Chinese takeaway but it appears they sure make up for it with the Sodium. I guess I'm just surprised that a single meal can have such a profound effect on my body.
