  • I'd add. Don't be in any form of relationship to this - having a partner distracts from the real focus of running fast splits.

  • "being younger" in my case

Yes, it's apparent that when I was under 40 I was faster, although with that said my fastest 1000m (as part of a 5km Parkrun) is 3:51 (2015, I was 39), and my fifth fastest is 4:03, which was part of an 18Km run last week (I'm 43 until Friday).

  • Quite excited to be due a new social distancing running t-shirt in the next couple of weeks, there was a vest version too (pictured) but I prefer T.

  • Oof that was warm. I'm not built for running in weather like this, Monday's 10k was definitely still in my legs so took it easy.

  • @Greenbank I messed up not going out early doors this morning, will I die in this heat later?!

  • It's not that hot, it just doesn't help having a BMI > 30 is all I can say.

  • Top off and tan through it

  • I ran 10 miles at 6am this morning still had sweat pouring off me when I got home.

    Good luck! Stay hydrated

  • ..
    double post

  • Losing 1.5kg on a 30 minute run is a useful bonus too.

  • Ha! Aint nobody wanna see that!

  • I went out at lunchtime and can confirm it was hot. I didn’t take my shirt off.

  • Sounds awesome. If I wasn’t injured I’d be tempted to have a go myself! Good luck dude

  • I think the gps in my phone is drunk.
Would a running watch be better for this type of thing?

  • Seen this a fair bit from the phone app. A watch would be much more accurate

  • Thought so. Looking at previous gen stuff because ££££... Polar M430 seems to be pretty accurate and cheap. It uses a more power hungry but more accurate gps chip than current stuff apparently.

  • That’s nuts. Will you be Strava-ing it?

  • Amazingly did my quickest ever KM yesterday (for 2020). Maybe I do like the heat?

Traffic levels seem to have returned to almost near normal at 6pm around Dulwich.

  • I just looked up what this is, sounds fun and crazy and stupid and I can't wait to hear how it goes!

  • Depending on your budget, a pre-owned Garmin something-or-other might be worth looking at? I've got a 220 that's been going strong since 2015 and I'm still very happy with it.

  • I use the M430 and rate it. GPS seems pretty accurate (below is the route produced from a track session a few months ago). Wrist HR seems as good as any other wrist based hrm out there. It's not the most attractive unit, so little to no wrist time outside of running.

  • Bit of a random yarn if I may.

Just been out for a race pace interval session and totally blew up, unable to complete the session . It should have been very achievable. Have nailed similar runs very recently. So, what was different?

Part of it will be the warmth. It always takes me a few weeks to get used to running in summer temperatures. But the big thing is the Chinese takeaway I had last night. Every time I have a Chinese I put on anything up to 2.5kg in water weight overnight and blow up like a fucking balloon. It has taken me years to realise it, but I always struggle to run the day after a Chinese. It feels like I've halved my fitness overnight but I'll be fine again within a day or so.

Is anybody else here this badly affected by salty food or am I more of a fanny than I realised?

  • Hehe, this sounds wildly familiar, except Chinese food in China is super super oily too so you also have that feeling of needing to know EXACTLY where the nearest public toilets are. And let me tell you, Chinese public toilets are not nice.

  • Have something similar after visiting my folks for dinner. Indian/Bangladeshi food. Doesn't help that it is eaten later than my usual dinner time. And that i eat a mountain of it!

  • I had assumed that there were few similarities between what I order from my local and what you eat in China but maybe I'm wrong!

Our local takeaway is not very oily for a Chinese takeaway but it appears they sure make up for it with the Sodium. I guess I'm just surprised that a single meal can have such a profound effect on my body.
