Thanks. Unfortunately I think I may lack the fabrication skills.

(It's a 90s Dawes CX frame, 130mm spacing, 105 hubs)

Which 105? If it's one of the older generations with the M10×1 steel axles, the simplest way to get a grip on the dropouts might be just a solid axle and some track nuts. You can get the parts off the shelf https://www.velosolo.co.uk/shophub.html

36h 105 5700 hubs.

@ffm - cheers. The surly hurdy gurdy chain tensioner looks ideal. But £30 is pretty punchy. Although I guess it'll be one of those spares you keep and use again.
