Oh not more stuff about VD
I don't think Chalfie's said anything about Venereal Disease.

FFS, Boots are sold out of the high does vitamin D tablets my fussy teenager only objects to a bit. She was diagnosed as deficient about a year ago.

I think they're called STDs these days. Doesn't stop me from sniggering every time I see a Vaudois number plate.

Ok, how about Taiwan?

I Don't recall saying that.
You didn’t, that was me giving the context of the discussion between myself and colleague. We were comparing early responses.
Is there a nation that is a more useful comparison?

Regarding flights:
NZ has more per capita international visitors.
Of course international visitors are only half the story. Nationals fly out. I was interested and found this (below). I’m not sure if nationality refers here to airlines or airports but per capita NZ is over a third higher than the UK.

That said, the NZ population in entirety is around 5M. In 2019 the ONS reckons just shy of 40M visitors in the UK so proportionally the number of tourists isn't that different. That said, I reckon a lot of people go to NZ for the countryside not the cities, whereas I bet London is a huge draw for UK visitors.
I guess my point is there are similarities and differences. Nothing to see here :)

Anyone know whether Johnson is going to show for PMQs today? Consensus on Twitter seems to be he’s swerving it but can’t see anything on news sites...

Just got my random selection home test kit. Courier booked to collect tomorrow so need to self administer it tomorrow morning.
-
• #12836
Antibody test?
-
• #12837
Doesn't look like it - "the test may show whether you have the Covid-19 virus"
Results back in a week, apparently.

whats the consensus on this situation?
Mum wants to drive down to london and meet me in a park. She has just started a job at a garden centre on Tuesday (dont ask, shes recently retired and well off / doesnt need to be working minimum wage).
I would be ok with this however, my thoughts are that she is now 'high risk' and it would be unfair on my partner introducing her into our bubble as she also wants to see her mum but her mum as been under strict lockdown so low risk.
-
• #12839
Flat-out no.
Still a lots of risk, she still have to for example; stop at petrol station.

Good to know we’re all not in this together.

Driving does carry a mortality risk.
Has she got a bicycle?

Results are coming in from various settings and the main message seems to be that vitamin D deficiency may or may not help to prevent you catching the virus, but it does affect whether you get very ill from it.
Is my brain fried or does the sentence containing the “main message” of that article not actually make sense?
I’m pretty sure it’s a given that vitamin D deficiency won’t help to prevent anyone catching the virus?
-
• #12843
Yes, that's sloppy writing. The author clearly means that 'a good supply of vitamin D [or some other way of expressing that idea] may or may not help to prevent you catching the virus, but it does affect whether you get very ill from it'.

The government already respond last week that they won’t be providing an interpreter.
-
• #12847
Tossers.
-
• #12848
In their response they say there is an interpreter available on the Beeb - is the issue that there's a government livestream that doesn't have any interpretation? Does the govt stream have closed captioning at least?

My ex has informed me that she and her husband ‘have to’ drive to Brum -from London - to deliver groceries to his folks (80s, many health conditions). Now that the advice has loosened, they’re going to camp in the garden for the weekend so they can also go fishing and play golf. We’re all doomed.
-

they’re going to camp in the garden for the weekend
The guidelines haven't been loosened that far.
