  • What was your experience with SP? Planning for a dirt touring wheel set build with dynamo, SON looks best but very expensive, wondering about SP PD-8 how durable it is, especially the bearings, and how efficient for battery charging.

  • Bearings are good, but the main thing with SON is the life time of servicing etc. I know people who have ridden thousands of miles on SP with no issue, I think it’s a difficult one really!

I use a Jtek dyno on 3 bikes, and could buy SON at distributor trade and only have 1 of those!

  • I've bought 3 (rim brake version) SPs over the years, used for audax and commuting (on separate bikes). The first one seems fucked and is not used anymore. The 2nd (built up the week before 2015 PBP) is on the commuter but has felt pretty bad for a while now. The third is still good and on the audax bike but has not had much use.

Bought the Shimano for a new commuter build. I believe you can replace bearings in them?
