Thanks for the kind words! I‘m quite pleased with it. I only wish the tyres were a little bigger to fillup the clearances.

Indeed, seems like the first owner hardly used it...

I‘m at my gf‘s place in North Rhine Westphalia close to the dutch border. Not sure whether it‘s hops though, my gf suggested it might be a special way of growing fruit. The method is called „spalierobst“ and it makes the harvest easier. This is just a guess though :)

Some more fun in the spring sun on the cannondale:

Such a good looking bike!

Cheers! And it rides beautifully, too. I took it on another ride to the famous ‚Hambacher Forst‘. Quite an interesting tour with the open cast coal mine, an abandoned village and activist camps.

That looks like a great ride, thanks for sharing. Last summer I cycled from Cologne to the Eifel national park but I missed this, might be a good reason to go there again, Eifel is lovely too!

That sounds like a nice tour as well! Hambacher forst is definitely worth a visit if you‘re in the area but the region around it is a little dull to be honest :)

Doesn’t look too bad with black wheels either...

Speaking of Monstercross: I got another project in the pipeline. I found this cheap and rather tired Pinarello Cristallo mtb a while ago. The main selling point besides the price is the somec-esque paint scheme. It’s a fairly small frame with a reasonably short top tube (55cm) making it an ideal candidate for a fun little drop bar frankenbike. I don’t want to spend a lot on this so it’ll be a parts bin special.
The parts bin raid has brought up the following parts:- The marin’s old Deore LX Wolber Wheelset. The bearings are pretty rough so I’ll replace them with the ones in the exage hubs that are on the bike already. The reason I don’t want to use the OG wheelset is that the spokes and nippled are rotting away and a few nippled have already broken.
- The cockpit will be made up of a 1 inch tig stem from a hybrid frame that I bought abd sold on a while ago. Bars are some 44cm wide Ergodrops. I cut the ends since I won’t be using them and to prevent the bar end shifter from being to close to the legs when standing up. Shifter is a left hand side microshift microfriction lever. I checked the cable pull and it should work with a shimano rear derailleur. Brake levers mismatched (one is gipiemme) but they look reasonably similar. Old campa hoods for style points.
- I also found some kool stop cantilever pads abd some wobderfully hideous ambrosio bar tape.
- Tires will be 2.1 mythos xc knobblies that came with the cannondale.

Looking forward to seeing the progression on this. That bartape is fire!

Cheers Guys! I disassembled the bike yesterday and managed to remove the somewhat stuck seatpost. I don‘t have a tool here for the SKF bottombracket so it‘ll stay on for now and will be replaced later on. I cleaned, polished and sealed the frame and forks today. Quite pleased with the outcome so far. There‘s just something about a polished frame with some battle scars. The paint technique seems to be done with drops of paint which is dispersed with pressurized air. Somewhat similar to some of the pegoretti art frames, I‘d like to think.

P.s. the top tube is even a little shorter than expected with 54cm. The high rise stem has an effective reach of 10cm. This is pretty much the same as on my road bikes with a 55cm top tube, 10cm stem and compact bars with a little less reach.

First mock up to get an idea of the geometry. I think that it might just work but I‘ll have to see if the drops are too deep. If so, I‘ll replace them with some shallow drops.

I really like the result on the Cannondale but the Pina... Give it some non-dropped bars please. ;-)

I know what you mean. It‘s a bit of an experiment in geometry, this. As a normal flat bar MTB, the frame is a little too small for me and I got that niche covered already - hence the idea to use drop bars on this one. I‘ll make up my mind after a test ride. It‘s a parts bin build, so I‘m not financially vested in this setup :)

More or less finished the Pinarello. It‘s fun but the drops are a little too deep so I guess I‘ll try some dirt drops or moustache bars at some point. When I change the bars, I will also install a front derailleur to use the double crankset.

Lovely! +1 for dirt drops though.

That paint job is very good looking!
I think moustache bars are a good shout if you can find a shape that you get on with - they would probably also work with the brake and shifter levers you've already got!

Cheers :) yap, ideally I want to keep the levers and bar end shifter rather than switching to flatbar levers. Any recommendations for reasonably priced moustache bars with a little drop, wide hooks and flared ends?
turned out so great man!!! it's just so well-balanced overall
and of course new page, so here you go:
