  • Had these from Aldi for dinner last night. Wasn't expecting much but they're bloody good!

  • I got some of those Bonsan things yesterday because they were reduced. Not bad, but nothing special, wouldn't recommend. The 'fish' thing was quite nicely spiced but didn't taste of fish in the slightest (good).

  • Dunno if I’m late to the party on this but have started using nori sheets (shredded up) on our home made pizzas. Works really well with onions, capers, chilli, garlic and whatever! Gives them a taste of the sea

  • My birthday today so made a vegan chocolate chunk banana bread, but decided to do it like a cake and put a little buttercream in the middle. Don't think the bananas were at the ideal ripeness as can't taste them much, but still a pretty nice cake if I do say so myself.

  • That looks great, happy birthday!

  • May be of interest to some (gourmet ingredient box Plant Hub in Hackney): https://www.planthub.net/products/earthy-gourmet-box?variant=32253831413865

  • Being stuck in the house for weeks has got me thinking about holidays (not any time soon of course). Has anyone got suggestions for good, vegan friendly holiday destinations? Open to anything really!
Edit: apart from Berlin, I'll be there at least twice next year anyway.

  • Fuerteventura have few nice vegan resteraunts - theres vegan pastries in the supermarkets - good roads / trails and warm weather all year round. winner for me.

  • Prague had a surprising amount of vegan places

  • We went to Prague last year actually, really loved it and there were plenty of vegan places. The highlights were Moment cafe for breakfast and eating burritos and drinking frozen margaritas in the park over the road from this place. Would highly recommend it but maybe not 2 years in a row!

  • I hadn't thought of anywhere like that, will look into it!

  • Most of Eastern Europe seems to have surprising (to an ignorant westerners) amounts of vegan places. Cycled most of the old Yugoslav countries, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Czechia and the Baltics and a few other places recently and never went hungry. Even when stuck you can get pizza or pasta without cheese.

  • Have been to Budapest, Bratislava, Wroclaw and Krakow on tour but not seen much of eastern Europe, might be a good shout!

  • PSA - this stuff is banging

  • Yeah, agreed. We don't make it to an Asda often, but when we do we buy a few blocks. And a little goes a long way.

  • There's a spicy Mexican one on the way.

  • Bestill my junk food loving heart! Nacho time!

  • I was embarrassingly excited about vegan Mexicana.

  • No need to be embarrassed about that.

  • Would anyone like a bottle of oat milk? Ordered it for my wife but she can't have it because it contains rapeseed oil. In E7.

  • Yes. Loving this. In a sandwich now. Melts great too.

  • What's everyone's favourite vegan mozzarella? Been making pizza from scratch recently and after going to all that effort I might as well use the best cheese I can! The violife stuff is alright, wondering if there's anything better out there though.

  • how much time do you have? the 'pizzaislovely' insta account (think i recommended their seitan chicken a while back) has a few videos in their highlights with a recipe - though looks like it needs you to raid H&B or similar to make it.

haven't tried it, mind..! (full disclosure: i have always absolutely detested cheese)

  • I do have plenty of time on my hands but might have to draw the line at making cheese from scratch, ha ha.
Also, I had another punt at that seitan recipe you shared, actually using silken tofu instead of firm this time and it worked a lot better!
