I like the look of them too, am I alone in preferring a strong velcro fixing and closing to any kind of cinching buckle and strap? You can crank the velcro nice and tight to make sure it doesn't move around, then once it's done up it stays done up... nice bags benana, would prob take a velcro one! :)

@benana These look great. Have you explored other fasteners? I noticed that saddle bags from Australian Skin Grows Back use Fidlock magnetic closures.

I would bloody love one of these if you happened to have any extras !

Velcro could be a good solution. I haven't seen it done. I'll give it a go see how it holds.

But how do they work?
They look like a nice way to do it. Wizard works do a magnetic clasp version which looks great too.
I wasn't sure if these would sell so I wasn't willing to put any more money in than the bits I already had. Maybe if I go worldwide with this.

I make mine with Velcro 👍

Those looks great! Glad to have more bag makers on the forum

My lezyne roll caddy has a velcro fastener and it's really effective. I've just bought a new one so I don't need a new one right now but if you ever got into customisable ones I'd be interested in a few. These would make great gifts.

I wonder if this would make a good fastener - G Hook. I'd be tempted by a roll like this with this type of fasterner, good to make tight but pretty quick to open

I had the same thought, ordered some from China a couple of days ago

Like a Louri bike strap, but with a bag / wrap instead of the elastic loops
edit - or in fact like user71349!

Yep. The Skin Grows Back closure is the same as on the Wizard Works tool roll. Very tidy.

From peoples experience/advice it looked like there was a better way to do this.
@theflatboy suggested Velcro and @user71349 has already nailed it with Velcro. I have given that a go and I think I like it more. Secure and easy to use.
When I make some more for those interested. I will be using this velcro design.

Velcro is shit, deteriorates/loses its strength/comes undone/ less effective when wet/gets crap stuck in it....
-
• #41
I'm interested! :)

I'm not fabricating anything like that but I can say for sure that the first and often only thing to go on Ortlieb bags is the velcro, and that's supposedly some heavy duty velcro stuff

Using a brooks c13 and a silca wrap i find the bottom when folded bunches And sticks out touching your leg.

Would a leather toe strap be a useful suggestion? http://www.zefal.com/en/other-accessories/213-christophe-leather-toe-straps.html

These look ace - great job - what about a lary colour contrast lining on the flap ?

Adding another hypothetical request to the mix, boa dials. Does anyone with a Silca seat roll have an opinion on them?
They seem like a good solution to the strap loosening. My Road Runner seat tool roll always comes undone regardless of how tight I strap it down. How hard would a simple tool roll with a boa dial strap be?
-

It looks a smart and quick system from watching a video of it.
I can't see anywhere you can buy the dial mechanism on its own. If you could get one, I don't see why it would be so hard to sew on.

These look good, would be interested in one if you make more of the buckle type. I have a Big Top that uses this buckle style, it's solid, never loosens. These curved and more compact buckles work better with tighter / smaller wraps. Plus it'll always do up tighter than a velcro tab can fasten, from experience with bikepacking bags.

I have a Silca. There is a plastic rail protector that is key. The Boa wires are really thin and I am terrified that I’ll tighten the Boa with this protector not correctly positioned and will damage the rails. Especially when they are carbon. If the Boa is not clipped in properly then the bag will just release, it should not come off but will swing around. There is
That said, they hold the pack incredibly well but the Velcro strap which is at 90 degrees to the boa could be longer and not Velcro.
I need to hold a small bottle of sealant but the Silca pack is not quite big enough to take that and a tube and roll up nicely (I know I should leave the tube).
The first one I made had a clip buckle. It only fit a road tube so I gave it to my brother. I only had one clip buckle left when making this lot so just used what I had.
If I make anymore I will have to buy more materials so might as well get clips. It works on the same principle as a ladder lock so shouldn't really be anymore secure but like you say easier to get into.
