Doesn't that depend on the the thread? But general abuse and slanderous comments can be made. But as long as those that make the comments have a certain post count. Or when called out face to face show what spineless loudmouths they are.
EDIT: Anyone else notice who joined this thread to blame the persona who has been deleted?

We have Moderators, this is their thread. Thankfully, we don't often need them as racism, religious intolerance and sexism are pretty rare on here, as is spamming and fraud in Classifieds.
What we could possibly do without are those who feel the need to call people out whilst thinking they hold the moral high ground. I would defend their right to do so, but it would help if they realised that it's just their opinion, we really don't need moral guidance. A variety of views can exist and be simultaneously valid.
