Hope / Cane Creek crown race compatibility?

Alrighty - anyone know if the Hope 1 1/8 crown race will fit a Cane Creek 40 headset? I've done this previously with an older CC model & it worked perfectly, not sure if the crown race is the same across the models though... have a new fork on the way & no tools for setting the crown race, was thinking of using a Hope split one like I had previously to avoid temptation to smack anything with a hammer

The cane creek one is not split? That’s an easy problem to solve.

Unfortunately not, they do a steel & an alloy version - it's an alloy one on the current fork & last time I tried to remove one of those I made a dog's dick of it, was absolutely mangled!

I hadn't actually thought of cutting one, the alloy one is weak enough a half decent pair of snips would go through easily - done a bit of searching earlier & the crown races for the 40 & 110 are (allegedly) backward compatible with the old S3 / S6 / S8 models so the Hope steel split one should do the trick, if not i'll order the CC one & get bodgy
