apparently you can boost the Vit D level of whole mushrooms by exposing the to sunlight (or UVB Lamps), not that i've ever done this but interesting to know...

yeah, got that, just mentioning going plant based removes the sustainability worries, more or less....

Just to be annoying, mushroom farms use a lot of energy.
You can get home kits with seeds these days you can grown several types of shrooms on coffee grounds.
-
• #12731
I somewhat doubt a home kit and all the manufacturing/packing/delivering that goes into it is greener than the efficiency of mass farming.
Unless you can continue to grow the mushrooms after but the kit I used was fun but only lasted two harvests.

the only mushrooms I have grown in this manner were not eaten for their vitamin D content
-
• #12733
That's not much use then. The idea of use recycled coffee grounds is cool though and we have lots of those in the house.
Would be nice to have ones I can put in the garden, but the ones that come up may have effects more similar to Eejit's ones...if I am lucky :)

More for the vitamine lsD content? ;)

Is any of this true? I don't know anything about the app, so can only go on what the article says. It would be interesting to hear comments from any approgrammers on here.

It has a chat feature. In the same way your employer could look through your email or your contributions to your intranet because they own it, they* - in theory - could look through content written in the chat feature.
In a nut shell: it's moderated.
It doesn't provide access to the handset's other messaging capability if that's what you are asking.

usually theReg is the best source for IT news. It does not address this specifically but the data protection is not great atm.

Right, so what happens in the app doesn't (necessarily) stay in the app, and it looks as if some people didn't know this and discussed things in there relating to their employment that can be considered sensitive.
I imagine most care workers only own one smartphone and while not inevitable, it was probably bound to happen that the feature would be used in this way.
Still problematic that employers seem to be checking on this to potentially punish people through what they can glean from the app.

Does the employer own the app chat data in this case? I'd imagine the UK government does?
-
• #12741
That's a different app, though, isn't it? The one in the article above is specifically for care workers and not for contact tracing.

Yeah pretty much. It's like using Facebook then being surprised when it turns out Facebook can read your PMs. Or in the case of LFGSS, VB can read your PMs.

Doubt it was an intention to allow this, probably a side effect of white labelling a pre-existing learning platform. Hive or something.
-
• #12743
Can you not skip the mushroom part and put yourself in the sun for vitamin D?
-
• #12744
VB can read your PMs.
Say what now?

He has ownership of the database it's all stored in. There's no magic end-to-end encryption so there must be a way that he could if he wanted to.
"can" is the operative word. I'm sure it's "can, but chooses not to, read your PMs"

Ah right.
Then Howard's comments apply. Still no good though, AFAIK even if you exchange data within a company system it should not be visible to the outside without your permission.

Say what now?
Haven't you seen the thread where we all discuss your PMs?

Dutch government recommends single people try to find -one- single sex buddy during coronavirus lockdown.
I suppose it is unfair if nobody can date and people having different bedpartners all the time is more likely to spread the virus than people sticking to one "friendship plus" agreement.
But also, wut.
They will also make face masks mandatory on public transport by June 1st. So everybody has weeks to prepare at least.

That was the best thread

Trump just announced operation "Warp Speed" - I can imagine questions in 3 months time about how that's going
I think it's the fish oils that were being talked about sustainability. As you say Vit D is readily available from vegan sources.
