    I mean, the peanuts come from Zambia, are cargo shipped to New Zealand to be crushed and jarred and then shipped from New Zealand to the UK by cargo ship. Cant think of anything I eat that has a worse supply chain than that!

  • It used to be that all the peanuts were from Australia. It is only very recently they have been also been using peanuts from Zambia (because of drought affecting supply from Australia). So, up until recently, the CO2 from shipping peanuts to NZ for processing would be quite low. The shipping to the UK, is more of an issue.

    Calculating these things is not that easy without a detailed knowledge of the whole supply chain. Pip and Nut, for example, get their peanuts from Argentina, so (when Pic's is using only peanuts from Australia) the total shipping distances probably are not that different (not sure about the volume - one is shipping peanuts, the other squashed peanuts in jars).
