• Speaking of Monstercross: I got another project in the pipeline. I found this cheap and rather tired Pinarello Cristallo mtb a while ago. The main selling point besides the price is the somec-esque paint scheme. It’s a fairly small frame with a reasonably short top tube (55cm) making it an ideal candidate for a fun little drop bar frankenbike. I don’t want to spend a lot on this so it’ll be a parts bin special.
The parts bin raid has brought up the following parts:

    • The marin’s old Deore LX Wolber Wheelset. The bearings are pretty rough so I’ll replace them with the ones in the exage hubs that are on the bike already. The reason I don’t want to use the OG wheelset is that the spokes and nippled are rotting away and a few nippled have already broken.
    • The cockpit will be made up of a 1 inch tig stem from a hybrid frame that I bought abd sold on a while ago. Bars are some 44cm wide Ergodrops. I cut the ends since I won’t be using them and to prevent the bar end shifter from being to close to the legs when standing up. Shifter is a left hand side microshift microfriction lever. I checked the cable pull and it should work with a shimano rear derailleur. Brake levers mismatched (one is gipiemme) but they look reasonably similar. Old campa hoods for style points.
    • I also found some kool stop cantilever pads abd some wobderfully hideous ambrosio bar tape.
    • Tires will be 2.1 mythos xc knobblies that came with the cannondale.
